BGS (Beckett) has damaged / burned my cards and will not return them back to me (Correction: USPS Damaged)

I mean you are the one who made a thread about their lawsuit, and they haven’t really been the same after that: Is Beckett cooked? $$$ lawsuit

Sure buddy…

Their parent company was sued, yes - due to fraudulent activities of their owner.

Beckett’s parent company, Collēctīvus Holdings, secured a $250 million financing deal that was finalized in December 2024. This financing was led by King Street Capital Management, alongside partners HPS Investment Partners and Oaktree Capital Management CllctSports Collectors Digest.

Here’s a clearer breakdown:

  • Back in February 2023, the Beckett Group received $235 million in financing from HPS Investment Partners and Freedom 3 Capital PR NewswireCB Insights.

  • More recently, in December 2024, Collēctīvus Holdings — the newly established parent company overseeing Beckett, Dragon Shield, and Southern Hobby Distribution — raised $250 million in financing, led by King Street Capital, with participation from HPS and Oaktree CllctSports Collectors Digest.

Beckett Grading (via its parent company) did receive a $250 million investment recently, through a structured financing deal completed in December 2024.

The speculation is that this investment will raise the value of the group, and then a sale will happen to pay off the debt of the owner - but nothing happened yet.

At the end of the day, I dont really care that much - I just enjoy collecting and grading with them.

If they go under (I doubt, they would be sold first) I would probs just switch to CGC.

Just had these back!

This is actually some pretty useful information! Thanks! I’ll rescind my last comment then.

I still feel they haven’t been the same after their incident, but you should definetly make a thread on BGS and what they do behind closed (or open) doors. It would be better than going out on every thread that talks about bgs

I can tell you have a lot of information, and I think a lot of people would love to see this in action. I’m gonna stop posting here however, as I don’t want to backtrack the current thread in pplace.

For sure, they are not doing as well as the others in terms of volume - but doesnt mean they are dead in the water financially.

They are actively hiring etc.

There’s clear evidence that Beckett Media is actively hiring across multiple areas, including roles directly tied to grading services:

  • Indeed currently lists 10–12 open positions, such as:

    • Operations Data Analyst (remote)

    • Logistics Assistant (Plano, TX)

    • Vice President, Operations (Plano, TX)

    • Letters Production Associate

    • Data Scientist (remote)

    • Customer Service Representative

    • Operations Associate – Invoicing Indeed+2Indeed+2

  • Glassdoor also shows about 10 job openings in the U.S., featuring similar positions and salary estimates—e.g., Customer Service roles and Operations leadership roles. Glassdoor+1

  • A TealHQ listing highlights an Operations Manager (Verification, Label Printing, Authentication Assistants) in Plano, overseeing a team of 20–25 employees. Teal

  • Beckett’s own Careers page promotes grading-related positions, like Sports/Non-Sports Grader, though some postings date back several years. Beckett

Gonna stop posting now as you derailed the post, but frankly OP should change the title once he get’s his cards back - “USPS have damaged / burned my cards” @boo

I’ve had this happen a couple of times, and it was the first thing I thought of when I saw the pictures. My packages that this happened to all had the same black marks/general melti-ness as well.

Howard Marks (legendary investor) invested in the latest financing round?!? Why?!? I wonder what the terms are that made it attractive…

at least 20% easier black labels for his own submissions🤣

To play devils advocate, I too have used BGS several times without a single issue. I could complain about minor issues like not having scans but nothing major. In the end, they’ve carved out a small piece of the grading market and I hope they stick around. It’s a net negative if there’s less competition for psa/cgc.

Sorry, I realize I’m contributing to the derailment, but Howard Marks’s firm, along with King Street, are well known high-yield / distressed debt investors - so they specialize in lending to “riskier” situations. They are definitely getting paid for it, this is a $250m debt deal where they are prob. getting a fairly good rate (likely double digit interest rate and a bunch of structural protections to ensure to they are one of the first to get paid in case of financial distress).

There are lots of cases where these financing deals give companies going through a hiccup enough breathing room to right the ship - so it’s def. a positive for BGS to get the capital, despite the scary characterization of “high-yield/distressed debt”. A sale is possible but doesn’t need to be the end result too. Am rooting for BGS to right the ship, more grading competition is good! (and maybe they can use that capital to start providing scans and improve CS for cases like this…)

Update 9/10/2025:
I did not get any email or call back regarding the return. I will now go back to calling daily to see if I can get anyone on the phone.

You are wasting your time - they wont give you special treatment. Again, this situation isnt their fault and you spam calling them wont help you.

I would just be patient.

I had a small problem with a BGS order that, fortunately, resolved itself. I sent an email on August 21st, and they just replied today, September 11th, apologizing for the delay. If it takes them 20 days to reply to one email, I can only imagine how long it takes to resolve an actual problem. So, yeah, be patient.

Update 9/11/2025:
I called again, and the same rep from last time answered. They said my case manager is not at their desk at the moment but they will call me back in the afternoon.

I just received emails letting me know that my sub has passed grading and is at the “Labels” stage.

Here is the item name, it looks like my sub is being returned finally!
