How rare are thin stamp base set commons, such as machop? I have an opportunity to buy one for $1000 but I don’t know much about these variants… Any help would be greatly appreciated!
So rare that seeing one begs the question “is it real?”
I didn’t know thin stamp commons even existed
I think it’s key to highlight what @Quuador said in that linked post that there is no “true” thin stamped non-holos. There are just some that appear thinner due to variation or smudging of the 1st edition stamp.
I’d rather have $1000
What if it was your favorite species (in the context of non-holo thin stamp)? Same feelings?
If you have that kind of money to drop then go for it, but as a species collector myself I feel like thats alot of FOMO taking over.
Yeah, I worry that FOMO is driving that choice as well which is why I haven’t pulled the trigger. I am not scrooge mcduck, so it’s probably wise to wait and perhaps the price may get reduced. I appreciate the observation, especially since I was feeling that way too.
I agree with others here. Paying $1,000 for a thin stamp Machop is a bit insane. If you really want the card, I would be patient and hope to pick one up in auction/BIN. Someone is bound to not notice the thin stamp, leading you to save hundreds of dollars.
I think the seller lurks e4 pretty regularly so if they see this thread my only emphasis would be that a species collector is most likely going to offer the most. I’ve sold a handful of thin stamps over the years and most went to species collectors.
I’m not looking to come between a sale here. If it’s something you really couldn’t live without it is not something that will pop up often. But to give an honest opinion on it, I wouldn’t pay a $950 premium for such a minor error.
