Base Set Shadowless Blastoise Missing Holo Layer! (CGC)

Hi all,

It’s been quite a long time since Pokemon really meant anything to me, but being this is my first post, I’ll come in swinging

I’m extremely excited to share a once in a lifetime find with you all… I recently submitted a favorite card from my childhood collection for grading with CGC; If you look closely, you’ll know why! CGC has authenticated my Base Set Shadowless Blastoise with the “missing holo layer” error. It only dawned on me recently that this card was supposed to be a holo. I even remember being upset that I couldn’t find a holographic version! 20 years later, I finally have an appreciation for how special he actually is… I still can’t believe I had him all along! I know how truly special this guy might be to quite a few people, so realistically I am considering that option too (for any interested collectors).

PS: Big thanks to CGC for turning him around so quickly!

Very interesting and cool that you could get it authenticated! Do you remember where you got it from? A standard (shadowless) booster pack?

I honestly wish I knew for sure. I was never into trading cards which makes me almost certain it was pack to sleeve. But I would have acquired it at 6 or 7 years old, so not discounting the possibility I made the best trade ever (unknowingly).
