Store promotional display, no idea on value

There is also a blastoise and venusaur one if i remember correctly

@thorgene
@thecharizardauthority

Yes, those are store display placards.
No real value but a fun collectible especially if you can find all three.
Glenn (japanime) has tons of this stuff and can maybe shed some light on these specific ones.

fixed your tag (no i in authority in the username)

I really would love to have the Pikachu display one, this is a pretty neat find. I wouldn’t suspect it is high value due to it being a pretty niche item, but it’s neat nonetheless!

Is there the jumbo pika inside?

Holy shit, an authentic 1997 BREAK oversize promo.

Ahhh, so awesome to see!

sigh, reminds me when I was travelling in macau, and found sailormoon, gundam, and DBZ adverts exactly like this! so kawaii!!

If I had a shop, these would be some of my first decorations to look to. Imagine a local hobby shop with original Pokémon advertisements displayed. What a dream.

I’ve been (im)patiently waiting for his comments this whole time. Haha.

COUGH COUGH @japanime

Regardless of its worth, it looks freaking fantastic. The junk they produce today has nothing on this old school stuff.

As Gary mentioned, I do have a lot of stuff like this. But not that particular one. Great find! I’m envious :blush:

Specifically, it’s a placard that was loaded and displayed in the window of the “gatchapon” vending machine from which the cards were dispensed. (I’m certain that’s what Gary meant when he said “store display placard,” just wanted to clarify it in case anyone wasn’t sure.)

These types of placards (both then and now) are hard to come by, as gatchapon machines are usually stocked by a third-party distributor rather than the store owner. So, if the display card goes “missing,” the distributor will know that the shopkeeper was responsible.

@japanime You’re a comprehensive article waiting to happen. :wink: Inbox me about this real quick.

Just in case someone wants a better picture.

EDIT : Oh ! That is not exactly the same thing !
I would like to have the cardboard of the OP :stuck_out_tongue:

Lucky! they’re too badass.

Actually, those two are even better! They are foldable cards to create a three-dimensional display piece that sits atop the gatchapon machines. The fact that those are still flat/unused makes them particularly collectible to ephemera geeks like myself :blush:
