Defintely
Let me start with Pikachu: when I joined the forum back in 2015, I had around 250 different Pikachu TCG cards, and it rapidly increased over the months with 20+ new Pikachu cards incoming at any given time. I think it was at the start or midway through 2017 or so that I surpassed Justin’s collection, and for a moment I had (as far as I’m aware) the largest Pikachu TCG collection in the world.
It wasn’t until a few years later however (too busy keeping up with new releases in 2019… ), at which point I had the second largest Pikachu TCG collection worldwide (a.f.a.i.k.) after Tom, where I truly started to look back how far I’ve had come. When I started, I never in a million years would have thought I had the collection I have today.
Of course, Pikachu isn’t my only collection, since I also have a completed FA Supporter collection; completed Seviper TCG collection; almost completed Moltres WotC #21 promo artwork collection (raw, sealed, and graded); some other smaller (completed) collections (Swablu; Ancient Mew PSA-10s; first released card in each TCG language; etc.); and currently my main focus is non-TCG stuff for Seviper, which opened up a whole other spectrum of collecting.
To everyone interested in some stats of my collection journey (up to Dec. 2021), just expand this post:
Also, the decision to stop collecting all TCG languages for Pikachu from Feb. 27th, 2021 (25th Pokémon Day) onward, even though it has been my main collection goal for the 7 years prior, I wouldn’t have made if I wasn’t really content with my Pokémon collection up to that point.
And I’m still happy with the decision tbh. So much less stress of keeping up with the daily Pikachu card releases, and I have more time for other collection goals (and just other hobbies and life itself outside of collecting).
Greetz,
