Let’s see those Nidokings please.
This past year I started the process of consolidating my collection, selling off everything but my eevees and sentimental cards and buying up all the eevees I was missing. I’m about 10 cards from finishing.
Honestly? I’m exhausted. This hobby is so expansive and expensive. Learned this morning I was missing 10 cards and not 9 and I was bummed. I will be content when I’m done, but maybe even before. It’s a lot of work to find the missing cards I have a kiddo now and my graded collection is already complete, so I’ll finish up everything that’s affordable and happily call it
Oh boy, it’s not just nidokings but a whole vintage japan pokemon merch museum instead
I am, considering I got a huge goal out of the way yes. Buuuut now I have a new goal
I absolutely love my collection and I’m proud of what I put together so far. I flip through a couple of my binders almost daily as they bring me a lot of joy to look at.
I am definitely not done by any means and if I had to stop collecting today there’d be so many holes in my binders where I’ve already planned out my future collection goals.
I’m happy to say i’m content with my collection, there ofc are some holes but basically everything tcg related i could just buy now if i really needed and wanted to, if i had to stop getting new cards immediately some of the holes would yeah bother me tho. The only thing that’s not possible to purchase right now is cosmos foil fossil muk and it’s perhaps the only thing that could gnaw the contentment of my collection if it went permanently missing, but honestly there’s no way i still couldn’t be content of what i’ve managed to get already. Getting new cards is fun tho and many of my collections either include making purchases from the impossible to fully complete non-tcg side of pokemon or require buying newly released tcg cards so regardless of the contentment i’ll keep on adding to what i have. Some holes in my collection kinda bug me tho that i’m not able to fill just because they don’t exist, like starter trio where only obsidian flames charmander has gotten an english release, Hataya not having enough bulk cards to fill a binder page or eternatus not having a refular half art for my pokedex. But if that’s my top issue with contentment i have it all well
I need to make a Mega Thread, I don’t know if it’s possible to upload + 200 pictures just to show each set I’m collecting
Nidokings, nidorinos and nidorans i’ve been at a stand-still for a few years, I pick up new stuff from time to time But there’s too much stuff to collect, it’s hard to follow
I’m happy with it, but I’ve got a lot of goals to complete and I’m playing catchup at a bad time from a wrong break.
If only I got back in around 2014
Cheers!
hmm… Yeah, well…
Parts of it. =)
If you told me I couldn’t add any more cards for the rest of the year I’d be fairly content just admiring what I have. In saying that I have some rather large aspirations for the coming years and expect that I’ll always feel a desire to add more.
Would love to see it! By the way most people upload small pieces at a time because it’s too hard to do it all at once.
But there are also several posting functions like a hidden drop down tabs, or gallery that you can scroll through so when you see it in the thread it doesn’t require scrolling a 100 times to go through. If you click the ““ next to the “🫱🏽“ symbol next to peoples names like PFM or others there are some great examples.
Coool thanks for the tips ! I will do this gradually and probably do a post per collection “type” . Hopefully I will start next week, It will also serve as a research post
Defintely
Let me start with Pikachu: when I joined the forum back in 2015, I had around 250 different Pikachu TCG cards, and it rapidly increased over the months with 20+ new Pikachu cards incoming at any given time. I think it was at the start or midway through 2017 or so that I surpassed Justin’s collection, and for a moment I had (as far as I’m aware) the largest Pikachu TCG collection in the world.
It wasn’t until a few years later however (too busy keeping up with new releases in 2019… ), at which point I had the second largest Pikachu TCG collection worldwide (a.f.a.i.k.) after Tom, where I truly started to look back how far I’ve had come. When I started, I never in a million years would have thought I had the collection I have today.
Of course, Pikachu isn’t my only collection, since I also have a completed FA Supporter collection; completed Seviper TCG collection; almost completed Moltres WotC #21 promo artwork collection (raw, sealed, and graded); some other smaller (completed) collections (Swablu; Ancient Mew PSA-10s; first released card in each TCG language; etc.); and currently my main focus is non-TCG stuff for Seviper, which opened up a whole other spectrum of collecting.
To everyone interested in some stats of my collection journey (up to Dec. 2021), just expand this post:
Also, the decision to stop collecting all TCG languages for Pikachu from Feb. 27th, 2021 (25th Pokémon Day) onward, even though it has been my main collection goal for the 7 years prior, I wouldn’t have made if I wasn’t really content with my Pokémon collection up to that point.
And I’m still happy with the decision tbh. So much less stress of keeping up with the daily Pikachu card releases, and I have more time for other collection goals (and just other hobbies and life itself outside of collecting).
Greetz,
Quuador
I think content is a hard term to define what exactly that means to me. I am content in that I love all the items I have. Generally speaking, I don’t buy things I’m not genuinely interested in. But I also don’t think being content means that I can’t also desire to add more pieces to it, take some away from it, or have it transform over time. But as a current snapshot as it sits, I definitely love my collection!
Pretty content with my slabs at this point, but I have a ton of gaps left in my binder sets to fill. I thought I was going to fill them up sooner, it’s been years in the making so far. I’m still enjoying the process, but I’ve slowed down the past while since I bought so much the past couple years. I didn’t think I was going to collect as much Japanese as I have, and I also have tied some money into the new 151 set as well.
Anyway, I’ve definitely collected way more than I thought I was going to. At first I thought I’d just collect Base through Neo era WOTC… but I’ve gone into so much more than I expected
I am happy with what I have, but I don’t think I will ever be content with it. A big reason is that its simply not possible to realistically complete every current goal I have, so I am always working towards something. If I was content, I would be fine not going for anything, buying any new cards, opening modern, etc…
My goals may shift and I may lose interest in collecting in the future, but that isn’t something I can predict easily. I would argue that that isn’t the same as being content anyways, rather just misplaced attention haha
Definitely!!!
If I have to tell Past Oma about everything I’ve got in the last 4 years, he wouldn’t have believed me. I know that most of my collection is just bulk, but I’ve managed to get some specific items that might be difficult to find …
I’m totally proud of the Trainers Magazine Vol.19 or the Spanish Burger King 2009 Pikachu for example …
However, I still have several goals to achieve. I know it’s going to take a long time, but I’m happy with it …
I’m not content, but I’m at a hard stopping point due to being priced out but other than that I’m happy with the collection I built.
There is nothing I want for my personal collection except:
SWSH 1st Place Taiwanese Victory Proof
Miracle Diamond
Wonder Platinum (pipe dream)
Champions League 07 (pipe dream)
As you can see I’m basically priced out of everything I want. I will keep flipping cardboard to save up for the 4 above but unlikely for me to own all 4 together
