Approaching players about Worlds promos?

Going off of @simensim1 and @alovell 's very englightening threads about the Worlds promos, I have a follow-up question:

How does one go about approaching players? I assume you can’t just message them on twitter etc. about buying a set, or a card. Is there a formality, would anyone mind sharing their experiences?

I love the artwork and history of these cards, and have been actively pursuing them since I first got into the hobby a year ago. I plan on going to Worlds next year, as it’s quite accesible to me, and was just wondering on the etiquette. Many thanks for any responses to this!

In this episode of e4, we cover basic human interaction.
There’s no secret trick. Just find out who they are and approach them politely whether it be online or in-person.

I would either 1. disguise myself as smpratte or 2. run faster than him

The real trick is just to follow Scott wherever he goes and to never let him out of your sight, once the target i mean card seller has been located you will pretend to be Scotts brother.
Smiling here is very important, don’t forget to smile.
And don’t forget you will have a higher offer than your fake brother to guarantee succes.

Unless the Target decides to keep his proudly earned prize card in which case you can nick it and make a run for it.

You joke but a flipper asked a winner if they were selling their trophy, winner said no, flipper immediately walked away.

This is not a joke. I’m just creating a diversion so people don’t start to find out the about the secret worlds handshake that indicates you’re buying and gives you the 70% discount

I knew it! Now I’m going to have to pay a fair price and actually socialise with and treat players like people. Well, there goes my plan…

Legitimately though, I’m glad it’s as simple as just approaching them. I was just curious if people had any stories or experiences they could share.

Thank you for taking my snarky-ass comments well. My best advice is to just put yourself in the right place at the right time with the right offer. Whether it’s buying from the staff or winners or whatever. Information at the event will give you the greatest edge. Honestly, if you just chill with the e4 people at worlds you will pick up real tips in real time. Or just follow the flippers around and pick up their scraps lol (how I actually got my staff promo last year). See you in 2021

“Here we see a young pokemon nerd asking a tournament winner if he can buy his precious cardbaord while performing the purchasing dance. Unfortunately the winner is not impressed by this nerds advances. Perhaps he will have better luck tomorrow.”

I imagine this in that BBC wild Documentary voice.

@pokekuma13 From reading past comments on the topic - one thing to be aware of is that you can’t exchange money for cards in the venue. You need to arrange to meet outside the venue.

Someone better teach me if im going to go in 2021. Not to buy cards, but just to fit in. Plz and thank you.

Here’s what I’ve done: Play all season long and don’t get your invite. Split a hotel room with players who did earn their invitations, and then ask if they’ll trade their promos. Most people say “yeah lemme keep the English one I guess” if they care about them and then they ask you for some trainer cards and playable ultra rares or maybe just $20 for the remaining cards. Then you find anyone else in the main hall with a “competitor” badge and ask if they’d trade their promos. You’ll have more luck on the VGC side, so long as they’re carrying a bag of some sort on them, otherwise their merch is in their hotel room.

The surest way is to build a relationship with someone quite good at the game with a world’s invite and make a deal to pay off their T64 / T32 / T16 / T8 opponents to purposefully misplay and lose in exchange for receiving their trophy card. If the White Sox did it nothing’s stopping you.
