I understand if it’s not for you just like I understand if it IS for you.
Just this summer I unexpectedly fucked up a bunny with my lawnmower. Poor little guy didn’t move and I was going around the corner of the house and couldn’t see him. I still never found the head. I was a little heartbroken honestly, as I had certainly NOT intended to kill a mammal that day. Still, I would like to try hunting.
I schedule trips to the smokey mountains twice a year to do some quality trout fishing and hiking. It’s always something I look forward to doing to relax and get away from the metropolis. It’s also a past time My dad and I have been able to get my lil sister into so it’s turned into a family affair. My dad has been trying to get me into hunting but I don’t have the patience for it. It’s not that I mind shooting a buck, but sitting around all day for MAYBE one chance to hit or miss, then having to spend hours carving the thing up and probably ruining a pair of clothes in the process? No thanks. At least with trout fishing you can wade through the water moving down the streams working the pockets and holes while smoking a cigar or sipping some whiskey.
I don’t hunt or fish but am extremely grateful that I have the freedom of choice, without persecution, to pursue what I personally enjoy.
I’ll respect you just as much whether you hug trees or go on safari. And I’ll respect you even more if you don’t let your differences affect your friendships.
I’m all about the 2nd Amendment, but I think hunters are terrible people and what they do is morally wrong. People who get their jollies from murdering innocent creatures are pieces of shit in my book.
I can understand killing to reduce the population of an invasive or harmful species, but that’s about it. The hunting for food argument is bogus. Unless you happen to be living in a very remote area or are fending off starvation, then there are plenty of more sensible ways to eat.
My cousin in Maine just posted a picture of a Moose he killed. Nice one buddy, you managed to shoot a majestic animal who was minding his own business. Got the head mounted too. Nice, pretty sure serial killers like to keep trophies too.
If you are going to hunt, be a man and do it bare handed or with a knife. Using a rifle or shotgun doesn’t provide a fair playing ground. Yes, animals hunt in the wild, but the difference is you have an extremely unfair advantage.
Going to go off the deep end a little bit here and say that you should be allowed to get a hunting license, but only if you then are allowed to be hunted by other hunters in return.

Pescetarian here, but even I was offended by Chris B’s fishing trip picture. Want to eat a fish and cook it up while camping, maybe even take one home to eat? Cool. But I counted 15 fish in that picture. Way to overfish and help ruin the environment.
It takes a special type of person to take something else’s life away and enjoy it. Whether that’s lions, moose, birds, or any other type of animal. I find it disturbing that some people have this blood lust and desire to kill. And moreso people who pose for photos with dead animals with a big smile on their face. Pretty twisted if you ask me. Luckily in Australia guns are banned and the gun culture isn’t as big so these people don’t have as easy access to these things. Unfortunately, instead of the NRA we have powerful gambling corporations that have too much exposure and control. The amount of sports betting ads we get everywhere is ridiculous.
Maybe let the people who relate to this thread enjoy the topic and have the thread run it’s course instead of shitting on it and turning it into a Facebook-level faux debate. Those of you who morally object to hunting, and really can’t refrain from adding your two cents in a context that didn’t invite an argument, then at least say your piece while avoiding generalizations of entire populations of diverse people around the world and just speak from your experience in a respectful way. Belittling the people you disagree with will never change their minds. But more importantly, this isn’t the place. Just let people be. Make a thread about how much you love protesting hunting or whatever your side hobby is, and other like-minded people can join in without having to be convinced about how great hunting is.
I say all of this having never touched a gun in my life and having 0 hunters in my family or friends.
Well said @e2d2 (shakes hand*). I know for a fact that you’ve read the dictionary at least twice. I tried mega hard to describe how I felt about this situation and I couldn’t puzzle up the words. Some people need this high level type of reality check more often than people realize. I also laughed extra hard @cullers statement. Please folks, relax…
Why? It’s an eye for an eye. I just happen to value the life of mammals, regardless of species. Who decides which ones are good to kill and which ones aren’t? Dolphins or dogs are off limits, but apparently moose and bears are okay.
Not trying to cause a “Faux Facebook Argument” or anything, but this kind of divisive thread brings up heated feelings. How about we make an “Any abortion lovers on the forum” thread and see how that goes.
…and yes I can’t help but throw in my 2 cents in…
This will be the last I have to say about this topic and will refrain from posting further. No hard feelings e4.
I’m a hunter. I hunt raw, rare Pokeman cards. I’ve had the opportunity to hunt animals, but didn’t do it. I’d prefer to shoot at targets. But good luck and have fun dude!
There are entire populations that need to hunt to survive. I have plenty of friends from West Africa who live in Rural areas where raising chickens, goats etc. is survival. This is similar to rural areas in the states. Deer are overpopulated, and cause many accidents.
Here is a perspective to consider, there are around 200 human deaths and 10,000 injuries due to deer car collisions. The population control minimizes these occurrences. Also the deer meat is eaten as food.
Its easy to cherry pick from our couches how the world should be in a vacuum. I personally don’t hunt, but it makes sense for a number of circumstances.
I’ve haven’t eaten any animal products for 6 years and am a strong proponent for animal rights. I mostly fight against factory farms because they are an abomination. I certainly don’t hunt or support hunting in anyway, but I don’t really put energy into telling people they shouldn’t hunt. I put all of my energy into telling people to stop supporting factory farms.
