Hey guys, I recently acquired a large chunk of the Japanese Gym and Neo Genesis sets. I don’t typically collect Japanese set cards, but I wanted to put them in a binder and was looking for an aesthetically pleasing way to set it up. I have Base, Jungle, and Fossil in Pokedex order the same way that Scott did in his binder video from a while back, and I’d like to set up these other sets in a similar way. I’m not a fan of using the Bulbapedia ordering system as I feel it breaks up the visual appeal too much.
TLDR: does anybody have a way that they binder early unnumbered Japanese sets that they like? Preferably different than the Bulbapedia set list.
I like to sort them by type and pokedex number within type, like the default lists. But ordering both gym sets together in pokedex order would probablby also look pretty neat. I did this recently with all the japanese vending series card. Otherwise you can just build a binder with only the holo cards. That will look awesome no matter how you sort them. You could also try to sort them by artist name.
When I make my binder sets (granted my collection is a bit… different), I usually order them from least liked to most liked.
So in the case for this, I would probably base it from the final evolutions that you like the most from each set and then do the evolutions with them. So least liked evolution to most liked evolution per set.
But that’s just me. I do think it makes more sense to do it in order of the Pokedex as others have already stated.
I am an early Japanese binder set collector. I order my collection by the bulbapedia set number, but recently have been considering grouping by the Pokemon like the silver bible orders cards, using pokedex order. Not sure if this is the same as what you’re saying you already do with other sets, though.
For clarity, this would mean: all bulba in release order, followed by all Ivysaur in release order, etc.
I was looking through mine last night actually and was thinking the same thing. It would make an interesting snapshot of all the cards from that era but it would be mildly infuriating to know I don’t have a set of trophies and Illustrator to put in there lol
Yep, I actually didn’t think about this until after I’d put ~2500 cards in 7 binders. So I’m eventually going to reorganize to remove the slots for the trophies, but I’m being stubborn
I personally collect all languages, and have the sets sorted on chronological order of all sets/decks/promo-ranges. The individual sets themselves I order on set number if they have one, or Bulbapedia’s order for Japanese sets.
You can see my entire collection of 10,000+ cards here, which (apart from my loose collections like Pikachus, Sevipers, FA Supporters, National Index, etc.) are all roughly sorted like this in their binders.
I’ve only recently made that spreadsheet. About 2 years ago I had a word doc I used to use (although I’ve never shared it). But after my HDD broke without a proper backup I stopped. This year I’ve reorganized my entire collection in their binders and made that spreadsheet.
