Another Fake Snap Pikachu Card

@frostbyte Could you please elaborate on your apparent cousin? Where specifically in Japan did they live, what did they do, etc.

Also you should upload photos of the pikachu with the entire collection.

That card looks really suspicious. What’s wrong with that border? Is that common with other snap cards?

I’d tend to say it’s fake, but if you want to be 100% sure send it over to PSA. That card is worth a ton of money. Some might disagree with me, but I say this goes higher than 1st Ed Base Zard at this point. Probably $25k+ easy. Unfortunately, I just don’t think it’s real but for this amount of money I’d send it to a professional even if there’s only a 1% chance it’s legit.

As I wait here in the darkness to find the truth. My mind wanders to the different parts of my youth. Wanting to believe its real is quite innocent. Assuming its counterfeit makes feel like a delinquent.

More on point though compare the energy symbols to the legitimate example, colour is off.

I messaged SMPratte, hopefully he gets back to me soon. Its an extremely MILD gloss, not a heavy gloss by any means. I will be back at my aunts house in a few weeks or so I can look around for documentation!

Just saw your message! Sorry new to these forums lol. I will upload the entire collection. Its roughly 400-500 base set holos in english/japanese. Mostly all cards.

My cousin lived in Neyagawa, Osaka; but frequently traveled to Tokyo for work. I will get more information from my Aunt on everything else about him. Maybe he has more documentation on Pokemon Events he attended, etc. As it was the holidays and he wasn’t with us I didn’t push anything on her and just enjoyed the Holidays. She is about a 6-7 hour drive from me so I can’t quite run over there now as its snowing =P

Dang I really want to know the verdict! I saw it’s real!

You and me both!! lol

That top border looks suspect.

Does anyone know if snap cards are normally glossy?

Obvious fake, nothing to see here

For anyone considering this a real card, so far there is 0 evidence supporting that feeling.

The onus is on the OP to provide evidence, which has not occurred. The photos look like 2 different cards. They sent me a temporary video on IG of the front and back moving quickly.

Also why are we seeing just this one card? If someone was balling enough to obtain an actual snap pikachu, why is it so isolated? Why does op know just enough to ask and show the card in such a way? How did this apparent person stumble upon a card that was only awarded to one individual? Why is it blurry compared to a real snap card?

Until those are answered, and/or the card is graded by psa, this is another social media manifestation.

The name Guthrie sounds familiar, not sure but there might have been like a competitive player or youtuber with that name

I can send videos of the entire collection…I wasnt posting it up for sale or anything. I didn’t even know anything about it so I was just asking. Hell, I didn’t even MAKE this post. I didn’t know these forums existed. I am not a huge collector, I collected when I was younger and these were left to me.

Getting hammered with some serious rude people everywhere I’ve posted it… I was just trying to get some information.

I will post everything when I can; all of the hundreds of base set holos that were left to me along with a lengthy video of the cards upclose including the pikachu.

Not trying to get fame, or anything really. Just information so I can sell it eventually.

Thank you.

I hope this is real… I actually audibly said ā€œholy shitā€ when I saw it before realizing it might be fake. It’s looking more like a fake, but I hope…

You and me both my friend.

The owner seems genuine. So i hope it’s real as well.

You came out of the woodworks with a $20,000+ card of which only twenty exist. This exact card has been counterfeited and used in scams about half a dozen times in just the past few years. So I’m sure you can understand why there is healthy skepticism. If you can provide the information required to prove that the card is authentic there should be no problem. The only information provided thus far has been very spotty, so naturally there is little confidence as of yet.

Some of the most knowledgable Pokemon collectors in the world frequent these forums, so I’ve no doubt we’ll get to the bottom of this

A lot of people have started to make and sell fakes, which delegitimizes the hobby. I think the point is that finding this is a bit like winning the lottery, you almost never just happen to find a real one. There usually needs to be a story behind how it was obtained.

Was your cousin a well known collector or they just collected for a very brief period of time like most kids and these have been sitting in a closet all these years? There’s probably 100,000 odd binders/boxes full of base set holos collecting dust for the past 15+ years. They don’t contain such holy grail though.

From the info you provided, they have a bunch of common product which doesn’t really fit with the Pikachu Snap Card. Unless they were friends with the actual winner of the card or something like that… which is the only way this story could make any sense.

At this point, your safest bet is just sending it over to PSA. Hope you come back to us with some good news.

This makes me laugh. If I had a card went to a forum and said ā€˜hey what’s this card?’ and they tell me it’s fake, I don’t get defensive and start calling people rude. In the off chance you’re not trying to be scummy, it’s a fake card till you prove otherwise, end of discussion.

If you want to know how to prove it, send it to PSA. Beside you’re going to need to do this if you want to sell it anyway.

Would this card have the green light at PSA even if it was real? I know the starters had some sort of discrepancy between the scan on the magazine and the actual card so they wouldn’t grade them. Did they clear all of the SNAP cards with those?
