A little bird tweeted saying that there is an Ancient Origins reprint/ re-release coming along.
And the question is; is this like Roaring Skies and Primal Clash where they re-released the set?
What are your thoughts?
I think these reprints are absolutely terrible!
We already have too many of these cards out and about and we really donât need more.
It doesnât nothing for collectors but hurt us. Well, given you have everything you want from the set. I feel like it decreases the value of our cards.
A LOT of people disagree with me outside the forum, but I put it this way to them: Letâs say there is only a handful of some PSA 10 card, They reprint/re-release these sets and more people get more PSA 10s out there, therefore it decreases the rarity of them. Then the price. And in my case (as well as other collectors) the desire to hunt them down and pay the once acceptable/now ridiculously high price (because people think they have something extremely rare).
And sure that spike of price will drop once people realize the card they have was once really hard to get but now common. But itâs still annoying. I accept that though since there are SO MANY people in the hobby that are trying to make a living off of reselling. (Iâm not downing anyone, kudos to them.)
I know collectorâs who donât really go by âValueâ, but I like to have cards that are hard to find and re-saturating the market with those âHard to findâ cards makes them not so hard to find.
I have had many people ask about my Graded Gyarados from the Carddass set and ask if Iâd like to see a re release of that set. My answer is just ânoâ. Do I have the complete set? No. Would I love to have it? YES! But I know rereleasing that set would hurt the current collectorâs of the set.
(I know there will be no re-release of that set, but Just throwing that out there because I get asked that a lot)
Alright. Ramblinâ done!
I posted about this a week and a half ago when my distributors both reached out to me for âpreordersâ.

Breakthrough had also been out of print at Pokemon, though it hadnât yet gone out of stock at their warehouse. This was also brought back into print/re-released or whatever you want to call it at the same time as ancient origins.
I posted about this two or three weeks ago (sorry @gottaketchumall =p ).
In response to what has been said above, this doesnât hurt collectors at all. A collector will either have it or not, so more being added to the market does not hurt the position of a collector.
What it will hurt is those invested into the set, those that want to make money on the set.
The Pokemon Company is confusing me on what it wants to do. It seems like they really want to push the Sun and Moon era with all the new products theyâre releasing, yet theyâre also reprinting all these old X and Y sets. Youâd think they would reprint older sets during a dry spell when not much new stuff is coming out. ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ
Theyâre confused.
Itâs been said before, but due to the huge increase in demand around XY evolutions, all the product was selling out and their back stock of primal clash, roaring skies, ancient origins (which are all also legal for Standard tournament play) had been eaten up. They simply want to keep standard legal sets available on the store shelves which I canât fault them for, but I and I think many others would have preferred them going about it in a more logical/transparent way. Example being they could have just never gone out of print on them in the first place until they rotated, or they could have at least made some formal announcements through official channels instead of starting with roaring skies, going backwards one set then forwards once again all only being âre-releasedâ through their distributors with very little information.
