Honestly this was my biggest surpise coming back to the tcg in 2020 to only find a handful of references to the anime… you would think they would have done a bunch of tie ins…
This might be a little dark… BUT… now that the anime is over, I want to see an episode where Ash’s age finally catches up to him like Bilbo Baggins in LOTR after the ring is no longer in his possession.
@pfm can the two threads be merged? Not sure which one to post in.
Was looking for the one more TCG themed because the big news is that Pikachu is also stepping back. Sure, Pikachu’s still the mascot but in the last few TCG eras, Pikachu has got more and more cards - I wonder if this will impact what is featured on promos at all. Will more Pokemon get the spotlight? Will Pikachu get even more cards due to less visibility in the anime?
Done!
New episode ‘The Distant Blue Sky’ on Dec 23, 2022
11 episode series featuring Ash, Brock & Misty starts Jan 13, 2023
The new characters for Paldea are Riko and Roy, starting April 2023
Today’s wave of trailers and promotional posters sure feels like the ultimate sendoff for the series’s most iconic character
Just saw this preview for the final episodes with Ash
The anime was my first introduction to the world of Pokemon, so it will always have a special place in my heart. It was aired in the native language and was a huge phenomenon which eventually culminated with the TCG and much later with the GB games.
I really enjoyed watching the anime till XY and if I am honest, the art style change stopped me from continuing with sun and moon. I enjoyed Journeys as well, as it was a refreshing take with a lot of fan service and a finale which seemed decades in the making.
It would be a bittersweet farewell indeed. However, its exciting to share the anime I enjoyed watching with my kids and in that relive the nostalgia.
Edit: I do hope Jesse, James and Meowth get a proper ending as well. They were one of the best parts of the anime.
Cheers!
I watched the anime when it first aired in January 2000 with norwegian dubs, then a little later I got the vhs with the first few episodes on it. I watched pretty consistently until the end of season 7, then only sporadically through BW, mostly online. The Sinnoh seasons had a lot of good stuff including some of the best battles!
I don’t feel anything about it coming to an end personally, probably because it’s been so long since I had any investment in it, and I’ve had/still have multiple mid life crises already. But it does seem rather momentous.
For the 11 series episode ending Ash’s journey, there needs a promotional set of cards to be released. Not for stonks, but to commemorate.
He looks so young! Wish I still looked like 1997! Me and my friends celebrating Ash’s last journey.
I agree. I see the announcement had a small reaction for the cards that feature Ash and Pikachu. Would be great to see some releases around it the finale.
An NPR interview with “Ash” . The end of an Era! Listen on “It’s been a minute”
Where is everyone watching the 11 episode mini series online? I see it started on Jan 13th but I’m totally clueless about where to watch. I tried googling but just got a bunch of articles with less than helpful info.
My first introduction was also back in 2000, and I stuck with it for a few years, through the middle of Jhoto. But, I got into other more adult anime, Outlaw Star, Gundam, and since then it hasn’t mattered much to me. But still, I wonder about the symbolism of Ash’s story finally being concluded. Ash has always been, in my view, a mythical character, like Link in Zelda, who keeps having new adventures, but often in a new incarnation.
In a way, Ash (as I see him) hasn’t been the main character of the show for quite a while: The character and animation style redesign during Sun Moon really was the “all good things…” point for me, but I guess now it’s official and cannon.
edit: for coherence
I had the same reaction to Sun and Moon. Can’t believe it’s almost 10 years since Origins, crazy.
