So I managed to snag these 3 over the last few months. Very Strong BGS 9.5s.. So I figure these “should” cross to a PSA 10.. At least 1 or 2. I don’t really plan on selling anytime soon so should I just leave them as they are. PSA will be at a local show doing on its grading in November so figured I would bring and see but maybe not worth crossing and just leaving as is.
These are my only BGS slabs.. Everything else is PSA.
Usually if something can be a PSA 10, it will not be sitting in a BGS 9.5 slab. Most sellers would not want to leave that much money on the table - thousands of dollars in this example.
That said, these cards have pretty high PSA 10 rates, so you might as well give it a try. I would never recommend crossover services. Crack and submit is often the best way to achieve your PSA 10 goals.
Really depends on your collecting goals and financial situation. Since you said you’re not planning on selling them right now, do you prefer uniformity in your collection at the cost of time and PSA upcharges? If so, and you think these are strong PSA 10 contenders, then I would recommend going for the regrade. My sense is that the total grading fees in the future will not be any less than the discounts that PSA provides for their Specials today.
If you do decide to grade with PSA, I would recommend cracking them out of BGS and sending in raw - especially since you can now toggle for the Min. Grade feature again. You can also deny upcharges if you do not get the grade you want so they will return the card to you ungraded at the initial grading service fee.
Assuming all of the above happens, and you’re now stuck with raw Poncho Pikas that you still genuinely believe are PSA 10 worthy, you can either run it back with the raw regrades or you can send to CGC to get the likely CGC 10 or CGC 10 Pristine (again, this is assuming your Ponchos are truly as clean as you say they are). From there, you run it back with PSA in the CGC slabs and see if the graders are having a good day and/or want to take cards from their competitor. #GradingIndustryToday
As a small test case from the end of last year, I had three PSA 9 cards valued in the low $thousands and sent them to CGC. They all crossed to CGC 10 gems. I sent them back to PSA in the CGC slabs - two got bumped to PSA 10 and the other dropped down to PSA 8.
Personally, I feel like currently your framing with the BGS 9.5s look great as is! Or, if you opt to keep them raw, you can grow an epic binder collection #bindergang
It really just comes down to your risk tolerance and how much you’re willing to spend. I have yet to hear of someone crossing a BGS slab to PSA and it resulting in a happy ending (myself included). As others have already mentioned the only way you are guaranteed a fair shake is to crack and submit raw which has it’s own risks.
If I were in your shoes, I would just enjoy them as is. If you decide to pursue crossing them to PSA I’d recommend starting with the card you think has the best shot and seeing how that goes before attempting to cross the others.
Quantify:
*leaving them as-is
*how disappointed you’d be if you cracked them and got a PSA 9
*how excited you’d be if you cracked them and got a PSA 10
*your emotions if you sold them as-is and bought PSA 10
*your financial situation
Weigh these options and determine what makes sense for you
