ADC's Japanese & English Lucario PSA master set

ADC

My Lucario collecting journey started way back at Christmas 2007, when I received my very first Lucario — the DP12 promo. Luckily, I held onto that card over the years, and my love for Lucario never faded.

At some point, I drifted away from the hobby, but I found my way back in 2017 when a dear old friend and I got back into collecting Pokémon together. In the beginning, I focused on collecting both Arcanine and Lucario, but over time, I narrowed my focus.

Today, my goal is to collect every Lucario card — in both English and Japanese — graded PSA 10!

The Lucario registry includes both English and Japanese cards. While the majority are TCG, there are also a few non-TCG items in the collection. As of April 2025, my completion percentage stands at 95.92%, and my GPA average is 9.52 across approximately 190 slabs.

The total number of slabs I currently own featuring Lucario is just over 200. While I can’t display them all here, I regularly post them on Instagram, along with a write-up of each card’s history and its pop report. As I mentioned earlier I do not bite and I am always happy to give help to species collectors/ anime dog collectors alike.

While I cannot display all my favourite Lucarios I can 110% break them down to my top 10. This list reflects my personal opinions—not based on rarity, but on the artwork and the personal connection I have with each card.

#1 - XY Furious Fists Lucario 107/111 EX:

sr_image_1745240767038

PSA 10 Population: 17

This is hands down my all-time favorite Lucario. When I first got back into collecting, I remember buying so many copies of this card — I even had an entire binder page filled with them. I spent two years hunting for it in a PSA 10, and I ended up paying quite a bit to get it. Luckily, I managed to grab it before the hype hit, because it recently sold for an eye-watering amount! What can I say? It’s an amazing set, with a fantastic and rare full art, and the illustrator did an incredible job.

#2 - Pokémon Card Game BW [Card Box Set] 023/BW:

QkbgTyTwjUywjpRMyKwGgg

PSA 10 Population: 1

I often come across the most unique Lucario cards, and one standout is this special promo from the BW Card Box Set. This card was exclusive to the set, making it unavailable through any other product. What makes it truly unique is its yellow border and English blueback, as the Japanese version from the Hail Blizzard set was never released in English. This means it’s the only variant of this card with a yellow border. This card is also extra stunning on account of it’s amazing cosmos holo and this is as rare as hen’s teeth.

#3 - San Diego Comic Con 91/127:

PSA Population higher: 11

Okay, okay — this one isn’t a Lucario, but mini dogs need love too! This Riolu card is by far the hardest Riolu to find, and it took months of relentless searching before I finally connected with an amazing collector who helped me track it down. It’s incredibly rare, and depending on who you ask, it’s considered one of the grails of the DPPT era.

#4 Lucario Half Deck 3/11:

FhDR4-kNNUmkan9SZ35sbg

PSA 10 Population: 5

We always hear about Japanese exclusives — but how often is it that a card isn’t released in Japanese? This card and deck were ones I had the pleasure of owning as a kid, and I still have my original copy (in well-loved condition, of course). The holobleed on this card is absolutely insane, and finding a clean copy is nearly unheard of, even if you open it fresh from the product. It’s truly a one-of-a-kind card that’s just so utterly beautiful. Interestingly, there’s also a “Saturn” holo version of this card!

#5 Japanese HR Contest 305/S-P

-X3Nk2CUtkeZy8yJglbhEw

PSA 10 Population: 489

What can I even say about this beauty that hasn’t already been said? This is the lowest production Lucario ever made, distributed as part of the HR contest in 2022. It’s estimated that only around 6,000 copies were ever released. I’m incredibly fortunate to own a full set of this card in every language — plus two copies of the Japanese version!

#6 - Everyone’s Exciting Battle (Wakuwaku 027/047):

FobB9yiFMkiL8hVK5YwCRg

PSA 10 Population: 8

When niche sets come to mind, I imagine this one holds a special place in hell for some collectors. Every couple of months, a Lucario collector will DM me, begging for help tracking down this card. Once upon a time, it was also one of the hardest cards for me to find in good condition.

Over the years, I’ve sent countless copies off to PSA, and today, I’m proud to own 3 of the 8 graded copies in existence. This is one of the few Lucario cards I will never get bored of. In fact, it was because of this card that I first started importing from Japan! Truly one of the quintessential challenges for any serious Lucario collector.

#7 Daichii Pan February Promo 203/BW-P:

T59qNkRRo02dghnKnUY_7A

PSA 10 Population: 5

Most people familiar with the BW era will know this card’s English cousin, BW85. While BW85 is an off-center, rough promo that I doubt will ever consistently grade a 10, this beauty not only looks way cooler but also has a much more interesting distribution story. Plus, Fukuda absolutely slaps, lol.

#8 Pokemon Rumble 12/16:

sr_image_1720209641234

PSA 10 Population: 16

One of the most unique promos ever released, featuring a super distinctive art style and origin. Ironically, I actually had this card as a kid — and ended up trading it to my cousin . This set is also notorious for severe warping, since the cards were held right behind the front packaging, so finding a perfect, unwarped copy today is extremely tough.

#9 Legends Awakened 61/146

r3ckSPGaU0uCyqWgsbKzxg

PSA 10 Population: 2

As we all know, DP-era reverse holos could get scratched by even a gentle gust of wind, lol. That’s part of what makes a DP reverse holo PSA 10 so special. This card, though, holds significant sentimental value for me — it was the second Lucario I ever owned, all the way back at Christmas 2008. It felt like a wonderful return to tradition when I finally purchased a pristine copy nearly 17 years later, in December 2024.

#10 Black Star Promo DP12

Ikamluq9HU-e3e-zEgNuHw

PSA 9 Population: 26

Very likely the coolest Lucario Lv.X card out there. This one holds a special place in my heart, as it marks the beginning of my journey as a young collector, all the way back at Christmas 2007! Even beyond its personal meaning to me, this card is just incredible — and I know plenty of Lucario collectors who count it as their favorite. Truly a standout piece from an amazing era of the TCG.

Erm… I don’t see the “bridge” in The Holy Grails? I think you made a mistake forgetting to attach it?

Great collection!

I really like Riolu but I have a strange feeling towards Lucario, maybe too “human” and too “superhero” ahahaha, I still can’t understand if I like it or not.

The font in those banners reminds me of Evangelion.

This is a great collection! However, referring to Lucario as an anime dog makes me very uncomfortable.

Thank you, I wish I could display it all here, but I am just not sure if I can format 200 slabs lol

Amazing collection, thanks for sharing here. I have seen snippets of your IG posts before (and just realized I wasn’t following you yet), but it was fun reading the texts you’ve added for the cards you’ve shown here.

I also LOL-ed at.

Best of luck continuing your PSA-10 journey! And I hope to see more update posts here in the future.

Update 28/08/25:

Hello everyone, I thought I would share a quick update on the collection given all the Lucario hype recently. And when I say there has been hype… there really has been hype. Cards that were once considered bulk are now selling for more than the Lucario trophy cards! It has been quite a whirlwind to say the least :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

So how is the collection holding up in these unusual times? Honestly, it is doing really well. I found out yesterday that my collection received a certificate on the PSA set registry, which really put things into perspective. It made me reflect on just how much effort has gone into collecting every Lucario in a PSA 10.

These days, Lucario cards I do not yet own, especially the rarer PSA 10 copies, are very hard to come by and the competition for them is fierce. With that in mind, I have been indulging more in some of my side passion projects. The most relevant at the moment is my ongoing autograph collecting.

While it is not as impressive as some of the titans of autographs, I would also like to share a small gallery of my favourite autographs. I would also like to say a big thank you for all the ongoing support and help from @slowqueen. I don’t think I would have the sanity to collect autographs if it wasn’t for goats like you.

Update 30/09/25:

Good morning everyone! I just wanted to drop a quick update on the collection. The excitement right now is off the charts, and Lucario is getting absolutely spoiled with some of the best cards ever released for them!

The current state of graded Lucario collecting is in a really unique place at the moment. Many of the mid-era cards that were once “reasonably” affordable have now climbed into the thousands of pounds (or dollars for my American friends). Ironically, Mega Brave remains very well priced and, quite frankly, incredible value for money, with artwork that is absolutely stunning.

With that in mind, I wanted to share an update on where my master set currently stands on the PSA registry, along with some progress on my two main collection goals.

Brick by brick we are getting closer, I am only missing a couple jumbos and Mega Brave!

Mega Brave:

My main goal is to collect all the Mega Brave Lucario cards in both English and Japanese, and I recently managed to pick up these beauties. I am currently looking into buying up a golden Lucario, but I will wait for the prices to drop!

Autograph collection update:

Another fantastic update for my collection is the addition of some beautiful Lucarios signed by the one and only NC Empire. As one of my favourite TCG illustrators, this was a real treat for me! I was lucky enough to have a friend who managed to get these signed in person, and I even cracked open two slabs to make it happen. I chose the Pre-release and Staff versions of this Lucario, and while I had considered sending in a Korean or Japanese print, or even a CoolxMetal sleeve, I am so glad I went with this decision. (The Spidops and Thievul are not mine!)

Anyway, that’s it for now guys, thank you for reading and have a great day!

That Spidops card is well done. The card art with the signature in white go well. Crazy all over. Congratulations on the new pickups and also the signature additions. Thanks for sharing.

Cheers!

Update 27/11/25:

Howdy folks, I’ve got some fun updates on my quest to collect every Lucario in a PSA 10. The best news is that the market has finally cooled off a bit, which means I can breathe again and scoop up more of those beautiful blue dogs. It feels great to be back on the hunt, and I’m excited to see what turns up next!

My first big win came when the incredible Mitsuhiro Arita signed my second favourite Lucario card, the 079/PCG-P. From what I’ve heard, he wasn’t feeling well at the time, yet he still managed to sketch this fantastic oversized head on it. I can’t say enough how much I adore that big head sketch. It has jumped straight into my top three favourite cards in my whole collection. It’s now off to PSA for grading along with my Himeno and Haru autographs, and I’m buzzing to see how they all turn out.

I also had the pleasure of meeting another dedicated Lucario collector, Cyndacards on IG, at the Yuka Morii signing event. They brought along their stunning D&P cards in a PSA 10, and seeing them all together was unreal. This might be the only photo of these Lucario grails side by side, and it felt like witnessing a tiny piece of hobby history.

I was lucky enough to attend the Mega Evolutions pop-up event at Westfield London on the 5th of October. It was a fun walkthrough experience that ended with a Mega Evolutions poster and a little fun pack, which was a nice bonus. The real highlight for me though was getting to see a full print of the Mega Evolutions artwork in person. It looked incredible and made the whole trip feel totally worth it.

Another big win was finally getting my hands on a UED copy of Awakening the Psychic King. No question, it’s one of the rarest XY sets out there and it has taken a while to hunt down. Thankfully, ya boy HayterTCG came through and hooked me up. I’m thrilled to have it in the collection at last.

Some other amazing slabs I managed to snag include this sweet Brave-5 card pack (the other one I sent in didn’t hit a 10 lol) and a gorgeous Takura card illustrated by Sumiyoshi Kizuki in their classic traditional style.

So anyway, unless the opportunity of the year suddenly pops up, that is pretty much me wrapped up for collecting in 2025. It has been a real mix of highs and lows, with more than a few moments where the wild prices made me want to give up altogether. I am glad I stayed with it though, because the wins this year have made the whole journey feel worth it.

Current progress for end of year of 2025.

I am probably jinxing it by saying this, but my hobby dream for 2026 is to collect the Aura’s Lucario set in all 10s. Whether that is actually possible is anyone’s guess. Thanks for hanging out and reading. Cheers, ADC.
