My Lucario collecting journey started way back at Christmas 2007, when I received my very first Lucario — the DP12 promo. Luckily, I held onto that card over the years, and my love for Lucario never faded.
At some point, I drifted away from the hobby, but I found my way back in 2017 when a dear old friend and I got back into collecting Pokémon together. In the beginning, I focused on collecting both Arcanine and Lucario, but over time, I narrowed my focus.
Today, my goal is to collect every Lucario card — in both English and Japanese — graded PSA 10!

The OG anime dog!

The Lucario registry includes both English and Japanese cards. While the majority are TCG, there are also a few non-TCG items in the collection. As of April 2025, my completion percentage stands at 95.92%, and my GPA average is 9.52 across approximately 190 slabs.

The total number of slabs I currently own featuring Lucario is just over 200. While I can’t display them all here, I regularly post them on Instagram, along with a write-up of each card’s history and its pop report. As I mentioned earlier I do not bite and I am always happy to give help to species collectors/ anime dog collectors alike.

While I cannot display all my favourite Lucarios I can 110% break them down to my top 10. This list reflects my personal opinions—not based on rarity, but on the artwork and the personal connection I have with each card.
#1 - XY Furious Fists Lucario 107/111 EX:

PSA 10 Population: 17
This is hands down my all-time favorite Lucario. When I first got back into collecting, I remember buying so many copies of this card — I even had an entire binder page filled with them. I spent two years hunting for it in a PSA 10, and I ended up paying quite a bit to get it. Luckily, I managed to grab it before the hype hit, because it recently sold for an eye-watering amount! What can I say? It’s an amazing set, with a fantastic and rare full art, and the illustrator did an incredible job.
#2 - Pokémon Card Game BW [Card Box Set] 023/BW:

PSA 10 Population: 1
I often come across the most unique Lucario cards, and one standout is this special promo from the BW Card Box Set. This card was exclusive to the set, making it unavailable through any other product. What makes it truly unique is its yellow border and English blueback, as the Japanese version from the Hail Blizzard set was never released in English. This means it’s the only variant of this card with a yellow border. This card is also extra stunning on account of it’s amazing cosmos holo and this is as rare as hen’s teeth.
#3 - San Diego Comic Con 91/127:

PSA Population higher: 11
Okay, okay — this one isn’t a Lucario, but mini dogs need love too! This Riolu card is by far the hardest Riolu to find, and it took months of relentless searching before I finally connected with an amazing collector who helped me track it down. It’s incredibly rare, and depending on who you ask, it’s considered one of the grails of the DPPT era.
#4 Lucario Half Deck 3/11:

PSA 10 Population: 5
We always hear about Japanese exclusives — but how often is it that a card isn’t released in Japanese? This card and deck were ones I had the pleasure of owning as a kid, and I still have my original copy (in well-loved condition, of course). The holobleed on this card is absolutely insane, and finding a clean copy is nearly unheard of, even if you open it fresh from the product. It’s truly a one-of-a-kind card that’s just so utterly beautiful. Interestingly, there’s also a “Saturn” holo version of this card!
#5 Japanese HR Contest 305/S-P

PSA 10 Population: 489
What can I even say about this beauty that hasn’t already been said? This is the lowest production Lucario ever made, distributed as part of the HR contest in 2022. It’s estimated that only around 6,000 copies were ever released. I’m incredibly fortunate to own a full set of this card in every language — plus two copies of the Japanese version!
#6 - Everyone’s Exciting Battle (Wakuwaku 027/047):

PSA 10 Population: 8
When niche sets come to mind, I imagine this one holds a special place in hell for some collectors. Every couple of months, a Lucario collector will DM me, begging for help tracking down this card. Once upon a time, it was also one of the hardest cards for me to find in good condition.
Over the years, I’ve sent countless copies off to PSA, and today, I’m proud to own 3 of the 8 graded copies in existence. This is one of the few Lucario cards I will never get bored of. In fact, it was because of this card that I first started importing from Japan! Truly one of the quintessential challenges for any serious Lucario collector.

#7 Daichii Pan February Promo 203/BW-P:

PSA 10 Population: 5
Most people familiar with the BW era will know this card’s English cousin, BW85. While BW85 is an off-center, rough promo that I doubt will ever consistently grade a 10, this beauty not only looks way cooler but also has a much more interesting distribution story. Plus, Fukuda absolutely slaps, lol.
#8 Pokemon Rumble 12/16:

PSA 10 Population: 16
One of the most unique promos ever released, featuring a super distinctive art style and origin. Ironically, I actually had this card as a kid — and ended up trading it to my cousin
. This set is also notorious for severe warping, since the cards were held right behind the front packaging, so finding a perfect, unwarped copy today is extremely tough.
#9 Legends Awakened 61/146

PSA 10 Population: 2
As we all know, DP-era reverse holos could get scratched by even a gentle gust of wind, lol. That’s part of what makes a DP reverse holo PSA 10 so special. This card, though, holds significant sentimental value for me — it was the second Lucario I ever owned, all the way back at Christmas 2008. It felt like a wonderful return to tradition when I finally purchased a pristine copy nearly 17 years later, in December 2024.
#10 Black Star Promo DP12

PSA 9 Population: 26
Very likely the coolest Lucario Lv.X card out there. This one holds a special place in my heart, as it marks the beginning of my journey as a young collector, all the way back at Christmas 2007! Even beyond its personal meaning to me, this card is just incredible — and I know plenty of Lucario collectors who count it as their favorite. Truly a standout piece from an amazing era of the TCG.

The cream of the crop cards I display in my cabinet! The rest are safely in storage.
