[Abandoned] New BGS Grading System for Gem Mint 10s

I’ve yet to see someone say this is a good idea and a ton of people are talking about it. It’s gotta be an April Fools joke right? Right!?

This is OMG. I can’t wait til people crack em and watch them go up and down and around and around. Where is this coming from? I see nothing on their website.

Wow, they actually did it. No more Gem Mint quad.

welp guess some ppl will have to start sending their GEM MINT 9.5+s for recasing :upside_down_face:

This seems really arbitrary to me. Why need 4 different tiers to explain 10? Just feels needlessly complicated.

Too many grades for the same card condition.

Unnecessary, and when you consider how hard it is to have consistent subgrade standards its even more unnecessary

There is zero reason to have a spectrum of 10s. This is a bad product.

They should just go with psa scale at this point if they want to give out more 10s.

This is going to cause literal chaos in the MTG registry community lol. This stands to devalue all 9.5s except for 9.5Q+ and higher (aka what are now “gem mint 10s”). And it stands to devalue all of the pre-change “pristine” 10s. What I find interesting is that 9.5Q and below is no longer gem mint – I’m particularly surprised they made that change.

Edit: I think this comment hits the nail on the head in terms of the motivation for making the change:

It’s not a terrible move. Give people more of what they actually want (10s). More submitters in the long term?

Now at least you can buy 9.5s that are guaranteed to get a 10.

They can’t even cut the video correctly lmfao.

1st edition Charizard psa 10 holders watching intently. Didn’t want gem mint 9.5 and not good enough for pristine 10 now have openings lol.

Its definitely gonna be better in the lomg run for them. Nobody likes 9.5, 10 just looks so much cleaner. And at that range its all about saying you have a 10, not showing that it is a 10 quality card

After seeing this, I’m okay with it. Seems confusing but I’m sure this will be a distant memory by the end of the year.
