Bgs had to do something and now they have. Cgcs move next. Love watching this chess game.
At first glance, I thought this was an April Fool’s joke when I saw the updated labeling…assuming they did in fact market research to confirm desirability for a Gem Mint 10 classification (which personally I agree with), having that label with two different subgrade configurations seems odd? For the sake of consistency with the rest of their grading scale below a 10, I wonder why they would not create a “Gem Mint +” or just demote the Gem Mint 10 with one 10 as part of the 9.5 Mint+…
Oh, huh, it’s real. Okay, wow. Lot of people with 9.5s that don’t cross the threshold for 10 are going to be very unhappy about this, oh boy, haha.
Even if this is real, the #1 rule in PR is to never make any announcement you actually want people to believe around April 1st
If they had just waited a week…
If it’s real I’ll probably send more cards to BGS. I already own several 9.5++ I can mail back in to bump up.
I would never willingly put my cards in a BGS case. Whenever I hold one of their cases, I think, “I should crack this and send it into PSA to re-case it”. Unless BGS Gem Mint sells for a reasonable discount to the PSA equivalent; it ain’t for me.
Maybe others will disagree.
Cgc already changed their 9.5 and 10 accessibility not long ago. This is probably in response to that
I’m seeing several moves ahead of all of them.
Seems like a good choice after the inital blow. I grade a lot with bgs but never aim for 10s so i dont really mind much. More 10s just means more people will use bgs. Which is fine with me because atm selling bgs stuff sucks
Cgc releasing more 10s made bgs do the same. Cgc didn’t have many to begin with so that’s fine but for bgs it hyperinflated their numbers which means big trouble. Bgs had to counter with something to take the heat off black labels which is this.
Outside of modern there isnt much bgs 10 to begin with. They have also been going for lo ger than the 2 years cgc has. i dont think too many 10s was ever a bgs issue
Bgs black label is the only thing bgs has. Mess with that and hey presto.
Yeeeaaaaahhh… I think I’m going to just stick with PSA ![]()
It does not seem like they are messing with it.
I use them for the simple label only. I hate the colors and barcodes and crap
There was no cgc. Bgs was second and now we have cgc who have taken 2nd place. Its business and move upon move is required. Bgs reminds me of this…
Idk how any of them are still in buisness with psa cheaper and better in every way except label. But if fighting over 2nd place is what they wanna do thats fine with me
Cgc listen. Psa has to be made to listen. We need a good competitor.
Other than higher resale value, I’m not sure that PSA is objectively better in any way than CGC or BGS. I think there’s plenty of space for more than one grading company in the market. Perhaps not enough space for a dozen, but surely enough space for three.
I just think with collecting old cards, if youve got a fanbase of people who have tons of old cards in old slabs its too late to swap. Maybe if they all started together it would be different. I cant see a world where the old school collector swaps their whole collection. And i think those collections are probably where the money is.
Most people i know who have alternate graded collwctions started grading like 2 years ago. I certainly started not super long ago. I dont regret it, but my graded collwction is also not really in the serious money category where any grading company would care about my opinion
Not sure if that all makes sense
Mostly just talking about value, not what people just wanna collect for fun cause thats more subjective
