This is just another reminder from me that Fedex is complete bullshit. Don’t use it for anything valuable unless you enjoy suffering. That’s all for 2024. I will share this advice again in 2025 just in case anyone forgets.
What would the purpose be of a driver driving to your location and then not bothering to walk to the door to drop the package?
There must surely be some kind of perverse incentive to fail to deliver on their part if it happens so often.
The drivers are checked on whether or not they have driven their route for the day. This can come up in a multitude of ways like fuel usage, GPS, or % of packages delivered. Their core job is driving the truck to your location. However, most delivery companies like Fedex, UPS, Amazon, etc are not yet tracking if their employees are actually getting out of the car and attempting delivery. The drivers know this and so if they are behind for the day, over capacity, tired, or lazy then they will complete their “route” and just sit in the truck and say “delivery attempted”.
It could also be that the drivers don’t want to be pulled into a he said/she said situation where they could be blamed for a package going missing and so just go through the motions and force the customer to come pick up the package, therefore removing the liability from the driver.
I rarely have a good experience with FedEx. Anytime I see a seller ship with it, I expect delays or even lost packages. I don’t understand it. I’m so thankful for the USPS.
Ironically, almost all parcels that go internationally from ship my cards go via fedex. I never hear about problems there.
But all their stuff is insured by 3rd party.
I also guess that they have spent over 1 million with them that they may get special treatment
I also live in Australia and I’ve never had an issue with Fedex, it’s been smooth sailing every time.
Seems like an obvious oversight if corporate wanted to solve it.
Is there a cap on insured amount? Maybe that’s why they don’t care to resolve it since it doesn’t hurt their bottom line.
Bought trophy cards from US and Japan. No issue with Fedex so far.
UPS is just as bad. I purchased shipping insurance for 8k for a package going to PSA. They lost it and when it came time to pay up they said insurance is invalid because I dropped it off at a UPS store and a UPS store is considered a third party company.
I may be wrong, but is it just the culture of how delivery personnel are in Americas? I use FedEx exclusively since SAL had stopped temporarily during COVID for my packages from Japan and have never looked back. FedEx has been excellent and always deliver as stated in the tracking. If I am not at home, then they make a second attempt next day and if I am not available the second attempt, then it goes to a central location in the city. I don’t think any delivery person here is allowed to drop packages at your doorstep. Most of the packages (in absence) are handed to the neighbour with a note.
Cheers!
Did you manage to get your money back in the end?
We have one in the UK called Evri, formerly known as Hermes. Their rep as Hermes was so bad that they rebranded to ‘Evri’ to start afresh but didn’t (as far as I can tell) change anything else. They use drivers working on a self-employed basis out of their own cars/vans so if you have a good one delivering in your local area then you are okay for receiving. Obviously the opposite if your local driver is unreliable.
And when sending with them, you have no control. I’ve had multiple bulky parcels go “missing” and the insurance you take out isn’t worth the paper it’s written on as it’s such a battle to find out HOW to claim from them in the first place (their site purposely sends you around in circles) let alone get them to pay out. The last time I had to take the advice of a consumer rights website and email their CEO in Europe demanding a resolution. In no way did I think that would work but I mysteriously had an email confirming a refund the very next day.
There was also a time during the pandemic when I’d got a good deal on a joblot of mint Base set commons/uncommons, and the seller chose Evri as the courier. I saw the package “confirmed” as delivered on ebay but nothing. Dug deeper and it had been left with my neighbour…apparently. Now I can 100% trust this neighbour but she hadn’t received anything, and the supposed delivery time didn’t tally with the fact that a DIFFERENT parcel from the same courier had been delivered to our house within minutes of this other missing parcel. So I went back to the online proof, found the signature and it had just been signed “Covid”. The policy with all couriers in the UK seems to be that only the seller can chase issues like this in any depth and mine kept showing me the picture of the “proof” and didn’t want anything to do with it. On one hand, I get the seller’s and ebay’s stance as it looked like I was scamming them. But I never saw those cards or a refund.
I did not get a refund. They said they will give me $1,000 for $8,000 worth of cards . I am going to take them to small claims court and hope for the best.
I just realized I had originally mentioned the same story in this thread back in October as I did the other day. Clearly these companies have traumatized me over the years more than I thought.
i get mildly irritated with FedEx in my location because they only attempt to deliver one time, and then drop it off at a pretty inconvenient pick up location (about 20-25min drive one way depending on traffic). Might be out to lunch or using toilet. Does not matter. They try one time, and dont attempt to redeliver a second time or third time before dropping it off at location for pick up.
Delivery speed and condition of parcels tend to be relatively on par with other couriers though.
There are frustrating and horror stories with all couriers. I dont think FedEx is any worse or less annoying to deal with than UPS/DHL/USPS from my own personal experience.
TLDR; Never give up! Idk your whole situation, but there still could be a small chance that you locate your package if it got lost.
I won a raffle from newegg to buy a gpu during the shortage back in covid, and asked any of my friends if they wanted it since I had one already. It was like a $2-3k gpu, and I also used a UPS store to drop off the package which got lost in the transit system for nearly 2 or 3 months.
It took me literally 2.5 months of badgering both UPS (HQ) and the employees at the UPS store just to finally retrieve the missing GPU.
UPS corporate was telling me I needed to contact the UPS store to locate my package. The UPS store was telling me to contact UPS corporate, and both were just unwilling to take any action. I had submitted multiple tickets to no avail.
In the end, because im persistent to the point of being annoying (i checked in 2-3x a week every week to the point where the UPS store employees were like “NO UPDATES” as soon as i walked in), I finally got a UPS Store employee to take 5 minutes out of his day to contact the UPS hub it was last seen in, then found out it was just sitting at the hub. Yup, just waiting a transit hub for some bizarre reason even though tracking and the label was intact. Eventually it got sent back to the UPS store. And then I was able to ship it out to my friend.
During the whole process, I couldn’t get any specific details from UPS corporate or the transit hubs because it was sent from the UPS store, and was told they could only talk to the UPS store since thats where the package was sent from. All it took was 1 single employee from the UPS store to take 5-10 minutes to call UPS to locate where my package was. Thats all it took. Minimal work and effort, but still took over 2 months to do. Everyone in that UPS store eventually got fired except the one single employee that helped me in the end when new management took over.
I have solved the problem of FedEx drivers.
If you make an account through FedEx, you can manage your delivery by asking for packages to be held at a nearby FedEx location at no cost. So instead of a driver lying about coming to the door and then having your package sit in a distribution center 60 minutes away from your home, you can pick up your package within a 5 day window at a local FedEx store.
This has literally fixed all of my troubles with them. I have come to the understanding that FedEx is a necessary evil in this life. Whether you grade, buy from auction houses, etc., at some point, you will receive a package from FedEx. Take the time to create an account and manage your deliveries. It will solve all of your problems. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.
I do this as well, i have them held at a location on my way home from work.
SO I am of the opinion that shipping is the most important crucially managed aspect of a sale and the majority of responsibility if I am selling/shipping.
If possible in your region set up any and all deliveries at an approved drop off location (ex for me Walgreens).
If you guys are using fed ex without an account set up for package management you are going to make your life hard at some point.
I think the only issue I have ever had with them is delivery outside of a target time (not an issue) as a purchaser.
A lot of people do not understand the complexity of package logistics and then throw in some disgruntled human factors…
Also USPS tops everyone I wish they’d deal with specialized services but they do 10+ billions items of mail etc…
New FedEx adventure incoming
Order booster boxes from Japan.
“Attempted delivery”
I received no door slip or notification of any kind.
Delivery status “on the way” for a week
No update.
Seller messages me:
No where to pay customs or indication I have to on the tracking page.
Call Fedex. Custom service is closed.
Call Fedex next day. I’m told to go to this page to pay it https://www.fedex.com/paynow/payment. No indication anywhere that I had to do this.
$170 customs fee.
Package will be redelivered tomorrow (today).
I guess I’ll work from home today to receive the package though I already had a haircut booked at 2:45pm…
…
They call me again later. They tell me I have to pick it up at their distribution center.
I hate going there because it take me nearly an hour.
“Can you redeliver it?” “No, we only attempt delivery twice”.
“I was home the first time but you didn’t notify me.”
Too bad I guess.
“Can you deliver it to the pick-up point 2 minutes from my house? The one you’ve used multiple times in the past?” “Maybe. Actually no we can’t do that either for some reason”.
Fedex is actually the worst company on the planet.
I swear Fedex keeps on getting worse with time. Not that any of the mail/delivery services are great, but Fedex is in it’s own category.
