A man got his “Popplio” pokémon card autographed by Pope Leo

Not a super deep thread but thought it was interesting. I haven’t seen a video of this, so for all I know he could have just brought a “signed” card with him to claim Leo signed it, but my guess is that this would immediately get debunked. My guess is the man actually did it.

How long do ya think until this is on eBay as a “POP 1 OF 1 LITERAL HOLY GRAIL AS SEEN ON REDDIT” with an AI description, being shill bid up to $1k?

Blasphemy. Arceus does not suffer fools gladly.

The pope’s signature in like a CGC auto 4 would be hilarious though

CGC would get so much hate. “The Holy Father, Supreme Pontiff’s signature is exactly and perfectly as was intended.”

As a Catholic, I’ve been loving Pope Leo XIV so far. He’s deeply intellectual, yet always humble enough to put his hand out to all with love & joy. Interestingly the Church has some unique ties to Pokemon, starting with the ‘blessing’ of the franchise back in 2000 by Pope John Paul II, and it looks like this tradition continues again with this simple gesture that will resonate with many fans and on-lookers around the world.

This is clever and cute! I hope the owner keeps it for life.

This is hilarious. I love it.

Imagine this signed by him …

This specific variant for this card is literally POP1 …

Non ironically I found that this card has 5 other variants of which 4 of them are numbered limited and above $600 USD each … :skull:

  • Normal variant: apparently common (PSA10 is less than $30 USD)
  • White Smoke (Sky): POP 267
  • Green Chrome: POP 99
  • Gold Chrome: POP 50
  • Rare Chrome: POP 25

Collecting cards from His Holiness is very expensive …

Not only that … imo the Popplio card feels out of place to be signed by The Pope …
A card or something related to him would have been a better option for a signature imo …

I think this is cute and I hope that the owner keeps the meme card forever. However, I equally pray that those closest to Pope Leo inform him of the greedy and voracious nature of the autograph market. It would be a blight on his name and position in the Church to regularly sign cards for resellers.

Neat choice I guess.

Pope Leo Pokemon auto flipper arc was not on my 2025 bingo card, but sadly I can totally see this happening
