If Arceus lives up to the hype, then we could be looking at a 25-30 million seller on the switch. The concept of the game is something that a lot of us have been waiting on since 3D graphics became possible…
Gamefreak isn’t developing the remakes, ILCA is
You necessarily have to buy the game in order to play it and determine if you like it. As mentioned, number of sales has more to do with marketing and the popularity of the franchise as a whole.
Its very clear many people were not satisfied with the game www.metacritic.com/game/switch/pokemon-sword
Even if you claim all these reviews were made in bad faith, the reality is a lot of people thought the game was mediocre. Myself and my girlfriend both contributed to the sales numbers and left feeling like it was potentially the worst in the franchise’s history. You can say that game freak didn’t have enough time, or we weren’t the target audience or whatever you want but that doesn’t change my dissatisfaction.
Moving on though, I have no strong feelings about the DP remake. The choice of a high-fidelity remake or the choice in graphical style is not inherently wrong. If you dont like those choices well then you have the entirety new adventure and more realistic graphics offered by the Arceus game to look forward to. While I agree with many of the qualms with sword and shield, I’m just not onboard with the outrage for these DP games, at least until I’m actually able to play them
TBH I do like the official trailer of the game better because this remake stuck to its roots of the original art style, just with updated graphics. The official version gives me more nostalgia rather than this fan made version.
Very well said, couldn’t have put it better myself.
Add to that the story telling, pace, and world-flow that RSE and HGSS had, and yes, honestly, those games were the best overall media experience. I’m hopeful that things will improve with the new Arceus game, but I won’t be buying it since I have no time… lol. Hopefully, which is weird to say, that WILL be a shame.
IDK about the pokemon go wave, but to partly add to your point, and to party possibly counter it, consider the following. Occasionally, a big producer will have a stroke of genius, but it’s often partly an accident. Truly good art is usually the result of an independent small project. I would put this question to the gaming community: If we want art, are we wrong to want it from big corporations who aim to make money, in the first place?

Sword and Shield that’s apparently a ‘super terrible’ game, is the third best selling Pokémon video game ever:

That’s a fact and not an opinion. Clearly they’re doing something right I suppose? Did I miss something?
It’s only a minority within the community on the internet that apparently are the loudest.
In the end, you are (again) not obligated to buy the game if you don’t support the company.
It’s OK to not like something, but don’t be ignorant about it or shove your opinion in someone’s throat.
Note that I have not given my opinion about these games at all and I refuse to give my own opinion, because my opinion doesn’t matter in this discussion.
The tough part about discussion is asking the right question. BUT I would ask this: Is there a significance to the fact that it’s only the 3rd highest selling? So, does that mean that the most successful pokemon can be NOW, is not as good as it was BEFORE?
For context, I don’t hate on anything. It’s not worth my time, unless it’s in a professional, functional capacity (which isn’t “hating-on” but practical debate, yata, yata…) So i personally don’t care what’s most popular, I just like to think about why the facts, as you correctly say, are indeed the facts. =)

I’m sure it has nothing to do with the fact that it’s on the Nintendo Switch or anything…any 1st party Pokemon game will do crazy numbers on the Switch, regardless of its quality compared to other entries in the series
