Honestly love these. Some of the best cameo cards too. Legit considering collecting Magikarp cameos now just because of this. Bulbasaur has the best design overall in my opinion but love them all. The colors remind me of childhood with giant lego blocks.

idk most of the responses seem pretty excited/happy, you’re definitely in the majority here!
that being said i agree with @cryingatnight that these are kind of mid. it’s an anniversary set so nostalgia and references are to be expected but i think they could have approached it more creatively, using the PF meowth as a guide:
-a charmander card that shows it out in the rain on route 24, or maybe a faceless shadowed trainer (generic) cradling it in their arms to protect it. pokedex could be under their arm?
-a bulbasaur card in that house in cerulean city, or maybe in the back garden, playing with your pikachu while the old woman and the shadowed generic trainer look on. she only gives you the bulbasaur if your pikachu is happy and content.
-a squirtle card in vermillion, maybe officer jenny has got him frog marching out of town or something. or you’re biking out of town with the squirtle in the front basket, shades on and grinning. it could be holding the thunder badge you need to acquire before you can get squirtle.
this is just spitballing!! i’m not saying everyone would like these. and i haven’t played the other games shown so can’t rlly comment beyond gen 1. but as it is, the cards kinda seem like uninspired collages of things we recognize, without really putting thought into how they look as a whole. the composition of the cards is so cluttered like they’re trying to do everything at once, and the style to me feels so flat and generic. i just wish they had done something different.

I like the idea of referencing the game locations. Feels like a bunch of scrap booking. Not the mosty artsy. But its a fun idea when taken as a whole.

I don’t like these very much at all.
I appreciate the in-game references, but I think they are too cluttered. It would have been much better if one Pokemon was paired with one in-game reference. These would be my suggestions to improve them.

Release several cards from each generation to highlight various gyms, routes, paths, badges, events, etc.

Incorporate the Pokemon within the in-game reference rather than copying-pasting references together or overlaying references behind generic character design. For example, Bulbasaur walking in Viridian Forest with Caterpie, Metapod, Weedle, and Kakuna in the trees.

Use reasonable color palettes and highlight various illustrators.
I was imagining a Pokemon 151 set, but for in-game references and for each gen.
