Let's see if we can collectively figure out all the Portuguese release dates once and for all

I’m in the process of updating my ‘Pikachu around the World’ collection posts, and today I was working on the Portuguese part. In that part, I hadn’t been able to find the release date of almost any release, and it kinda bothers me.

Since I made that collection post in 2021, we had some threads that might hold slithers of the information I’m looking for. @dromanyte for example posted this top 10 cards of the Portuguese EX Unseen Forces thread using the WaybackMachine on Devir’s website:

And @AuraBea posted research of Copag on every form of their website and social media:

And in this thread by @CloudsPB we also had a nice discussion about the releases of Portuguese cards, and potential differences between Brazil and Portugal:

CloudsPB also PM-ed me a while back about LigaPokémon’s sets page, which is grouped per year. Unfortunately, all the years and release dates mentioned are the English set releases, even when enabling the Portuguese Language toggle at the top-right, on both this overview and individual pages, so it wasn’t too useful in the end. :frowning:

Still, I feel like using WaybackMachine would be the way to perhaps determine release months/years more accurately than the guesses I did previously.
I for example guessed the Portuguese EX Emerald set was released somewhere mid to Fall 2005, but according to this old WaybackMachine Devir news page, it’s actually December 2005.

I hope we can find similar pages on old and forgotten Portuguese websites that might hold months/years of releases. I thought about making a PM-group with the three earlier mentioned people, but I figured it was more effective to just make this a public thread everyone could contribute to, with hopefully as ending result (one day in the distant future  ) a list of all release months/years (or perhaps even actual dates) of every Portuguese release.

Portuguese cards were printed by a few different companies depending on the year:

To emphasize, this thread is primarily to figure out all the release dates of the Portuguese releases, so let’s primarily focus on that. (I have also added all Portuguese Pikachu promo releases near the bottom, though. In case anyone knows the release dates of those products.)

Let me start with a list of all Portuguese set/deck releases, plus some visual marks on how well-known the release date is, which I’ll try to update over time:

:white_check_mark: Exact release date known
:check_box_with_check: Month/year of release date known
:warning: Only year known
:cross_mark: Nothing known, and year has been an educated guess

Sets:

EDIT: Now that some dates have been found, I think my estimations are way off..

  1. The last few sets with source from Copag seems to have released on the same day as the English set, hence my estimation of the exact English date for this Portuguese set, as well all sets below that are still without confirming sources. ↩︎

Sounds too good to be true, but there is a article on bulbapedia for XY: https://share.google/X9rusoZa8PNNUbMda

Its only for the XY set however, with no info on flash fire or the other sets, it also talks about theme decks that released near the same time and the

(edit: Scroll further down and it shows flash fire and the other sets, might have the entirety of XY.)

Oh, nice find! I wasn’t even aware of that page. And there are also links to other eras at the top bar.

I’ll update my post above with the information of these pages after eating dinner.

Greetz,
Quuador

Glad I could find some info for you! Good luck on your search!

It dosent have info for anything earlier than Diamond and Pearl and has stuff up to Scarlet and violet.

Also has info on SM76: > The special expansion Shining Legends was released on October 13, 2017. It came with four triple pack blisters featuring Pikachu, Mewtwo, Zoroark, and Marshadow. The Zoroark blister, however, was only released on January 26, 2018.

Promotional cards:

and SM81 The Premium Powers Collection was released on November 30, 2017, featuring a Ho-Oh-GX Jumbo card, four promotional cards, and eight Shining Legends booster packs.

Promotional cards:

The Coleção Lendária Pikachu-EX (English: Pikachu-EX Legendary Collection) is one of two Legendary Collections released on April 29, 2016. This Legendary Collection, much like the Coleção Lendária Hoopa-EX, includes 5 booster packs from recent expansions, a Pikachu-EX XY Black Star Promo, and five promotional Full Art cards. The five promotional Full Arts are Reshiram, Dialga, Latios, White Kyurem, and Arceus, which are five of the ten Full Art cards from the Japanese Legendary Shine Collection.

Promotional cards:

Released in September 2016, the Kit Do Treinador - Pikachu Mascarada e Suicune (English: XY Trainer Kit: Pikachu Libre & Suicune) is the fourth Trainer Kit released throughout the XY Series and features Pikachu Libre and Suicune. Like most Trainer Kits, the two cards are exclusive to the Trainer Kit. None of the cards have Rarity symbols and they each feature a collection number and set symbol exclusive to the kit. The collection numbers are the order of the cards in the two Half Decks for the example battle allowing for easy reset if the decks are accidentally shuffled prior to use for example battle.

In addition to the Half Decks, this XY Trainer Kit also includes a deck box, rulebook, damage counters, status counters, a custom coin featuring Pikachu, and a playmat. The kit also includes a Trainer Kit Guide, which takes players through an example battle. There is one guide for each of the Half Decks included.

This should cross off most of your misc list for Pikachu and a huge chunk of your set release dates, however, anything under Diamond and Pearl along with the World Collection and some misc non-set cards will still need to be searched for.

It seems like it has the release dates of all sets from Secret Wonders onward, by looking at the theme deck releases. I got excited, so I’ve already editing in a bunch of the release dates.

Will now really cook and eat dinner. And continue with XY+ after that.

Oh, and I’ve given you a :cubetoken:. You may have only provided a single link, but it answered half my entire thread, so thanks a lot, you deserve it.
I know I said I would give it once you’ve acquired your Rayquaza GS, but this is much more rewarding for what the :cubetoken: represents: sharing knowledge, especially those I wasn’t aware of previously.
Best of luck with your Rayquaza GS hunt, though! I hope your sales plan you’ve shared a few days ago iirc will all go according to plan, so you’ll soon be the proud owner of your favorite card!

Greetz,
Quuador

Thank you so much for the token! I wasn’t even thinking about it when I posted it, rather finding something that could prove valuable to your search! Hopefully you can find out the few remaining items to your search and then it’ll hopefully be 100% complete.

Regarding Livro Ilustrados… I remember searching about them in the past and found some interesting things that might be helpful…

Each Livro Ilustrado (until Unseen Forces) has its own page on Devir Brazil website.

Ruby & Sapphire:

Emerald:

Unseen Forces:

Torchic/Mudkip/Treecko/Ralts:

The first Livro Ilustrados that were released in 2004. It seems that these were the only Livro Ilustrados available in Portugal in 2006.

Rayquaza/Exploud

The earliest evidence of these Half Decks is dated from April 2006 (from Devir Brazil website)

Ho-Oh/Lugia:

Devir Portugal mentions Unseen Forces by late April 2006. However, no mention of Livro Ilustrados (2nd Wave of Ruby & Sapphire ones: Treecko & Ralts are mentioned however)

Golem/Omastar/Machamp/Gengar:

The PreRelease of Legend Maker was held in Portugal during 2006

However, the first appearance of these Half Decks were also in 2 waves:

1st Wave: Golem & Omastar. Not exact release date, but earliest evidence according to Devir Portugal points 20th May 2008

By 21st October 2008, the 2nd Wave: Machamp & Gengar also appeared in Devir Portugal website

By 08th May 2009, a PDF file related to the Legend Maker Livro Ilustrados appeared in Devir Portugal’s website
In this PDF file, they show an advertising poster with the official numeration (at least for Legend Maker)

  1. Golem
  2. Omastar
  3. Machamp
  4. Gengar

This Mewtwo artwork was also found in one of the Devir’s websites…

Hope you find this as helpful…

:meowth:

I wasn’t around to witness most of the key events of the 20th century, but I can tell my future kids I witnessed Vert getting a token :pikarelief: . Well done Vert!

I’ve updated the thread using the Portuguese Bulbapedia pages linked by @Vertemes (thanks again). Unfortunately, it stopped after Crimson Invasion, so the newer release dates are still missing (as well as the XY Kalos Starter Set and Generations set, which lacked both theme decks and blisters). But all the other sets from Secret Wonders to Crimson Invasion now have their release dates known, which is already a huge step in the right direction compared to having almost no release dates known when I created this thread a few hours ago.

Do you perhaps have links instead of screenshots to the Brazilian/Portuguese Devir pages? I noticed some of your screenshots contain the links (and used dates), and some doesn’t. If possible, I’d like to just add links to the relevant sources in the main post.

And I’m also a bit confused, since the Bulbapedia page mentions September 2005 in Brazil and October 2005 in Portugal for the first two decks. I’m curious where it had their information from in that case.

Greetz,
Quuador

Yes, but I’d have to search them … Screenshots are dated late 2024 …
It’s something I reminded when you mentioned the Livro Ilustrados …
These things are not well-preserved, so exact release date is unknown (but you can have an approximation of when were they released based on old evidence)

I don’t work for Bulbapedia … I don’t know where they got their sources. It’s something you’d have to ask them …

I just ripped a USA 1999-200 Portuguese pack. Managed to get a Pikachu! These are supposedly the true 1st edition of Portuguese Base even though they are not 1st edition and have the later copyright on the wrapper.

Whats the magenta?

-/-?

Yes

@Quuador I will lock in I got you! Lemme just do my morning catch up stuff and I will sort this out from DP onwards

Great job @Vertemes. Really awesome work and well deserved. Keep your focus and it wont be much time till we see your GS Rayquaza post!

Cheers!

I’m also not bothered to double check Bulbapedia is correct so I’ll ignore the ones cited that way hehe Copag is a never ending spiral I can never escape (I love it here)

I will keep picking away at this through multiple comments
Life Before Copag

Id be comfortable calling portuguese late 99-early 00 for base jungle and fossil. No sense including 01-03

Card plate patterns safely place them before Neo discovery in reference to Belgiums printings FYI. Capital error of base set suggests it was likely part of the 99 printings and the corrections on jungle and fossil would have been late 1999 or 2000. Obviously, I can’t narrow it down to an exact date without a sheet but its better than what we had.

@Quuador Hope this helps
