It will do absolutely nothing to them.
CGC’s authentication of the playtest cards was a completely foreseeable and in fact likely outcome of their wider high-end grading practices. I can probably count on two hands the number of high-end CGC cards that I don’t believe were the result of “incentivizing” in one form or another. CGC played with fire and got burned, but nobody with two brain cells to rub together was choosing CGC for their high end cards anyways, unless they got something out of it that made it worth it. And no, I’m not talking about lower prices.
As others have noted, the scandal won’t affect CGC’s bottom-of-the-barrel whatnot mystery box stuffer business. In fact, with PSA raising prices on TCG bulk and no grading special in sight, I wouldn’t be surprised to see CGC’s business increase like it did in 2021.
Effectively, there will be almost nobody that (a) was already submitting to CGC in significant numbers and (b) this scandal makes them stop doing it. If anything, the main output of this scandal will be a well-deserved reexamination of CGC’s high-end grading practices. However, I am not hopeful.
