So I recently got back two 1st edition Shadowless Charizards back from PSA (8.5 and 9). I was looking over the PSA 9, thinking of sending it in for review. When I first sent it in it looked PERFECT, and I mean PERFECT. So Looking over the card again to see what I could’ve missed (Which I still don’t understand the 9 grade) I noticed this little black dot on the card. Thought perhaps this is why the card got a 9? BUT, when I looked at my 8.5 it has the same exact mark? Both were bought from two different sellers, and after looking at other copies on eBay I can’t find another copy with the mark!!
Anyone know what this is? Is it factory? PSA caused, or what??
and would this bring the grade down to a 9 from a 10?
I checked a Haunter of mine, which has a 10 grade and also has a tiny spot of black on the border, much like your zards. That shouldn’t have been the deal breaker I guess.
The card is flawless, to see that spot I really need to go look for it and zoom in on the scan. Doesn’t affect the appeal on the card imo and wouldn’t be for this thread I wouldn’t even see it xD
However the OP zards are quite distinct and visible and they are in the middle of the card where the eyes are drawn too, maybe that is the reason why it affected the grade.
@garyis2000 Does PSA provides any sort of communication between the costumers and the grading team or someone higher in the grading team? Like a monthly question, type of thing where they would get an X amount of questions from subscribers and answer them publicly. I think that would be interesting.
The one knock about PSA is the fact that they dont give you the reason as to why a card grades how it does. Instead, they let their customers try and figure out why a card graded the way it did, a very tough thing to do after it has been slabbed
