Why is it that bulbasaur psa 10 is selling for more than squirtle and charmander yet venusaur is the cheaper out of the three holos
Look at the pop report, Bulbasaur is around 200 and Charmander/Squirtle are 500-600
I agree with @charizandrew. Bulbasaur has significantly less in the pop report. Venasaur has more in the pop than Blastoise or Charizard. Not much more than Charizard, but the card has way less lore surrounding it
Yeah its a weird phenomena, I haven’t graded a Bulbasaur before but have graded around a dozen or so of the others
Cheers guys so perhaps the 1st Ed sheets only contained a few bulbas
Bulbasaur has been a secret rare all these years.
I would say the POP report isn’t even the most obvious evidence. Count the number of PSA 10s of each available on eBay at any given moment. There is a consistently low supply of PSA 10 Bulbasaur relative to the Charmander/Squirtle.
@funmonkey54 wouldn’t you say the pop is at least loosely correlated with eBay availability? I would expect a card with significantly less copies in existence to also be less available on eBay.
Oh yeah. I’m not saying correlation doesn’t exist. I was just saying I think the line from POP report to price point isn’t as obvious an answer as the consistently lower supply on eBay. POP 200 doesn’t automatically make me assume higher price. Limited listings and <1% POP availability on eBay does.
Significantly less Bulbasaurs have been graded. Ironically being less popular makes it more scarce. Here are the current Pop totals for each:
- Charmander: 1,155
- Squirtle: 1,084
- Bulbasaur: 600
You know what they say: High prices will solve high prices.
I expect bulbasaur pop rate to slowly catch up as the price of the card goes up.
It’s still a little weird that many other commons like Tangela Pidgey or Metapod have a higher pop count. Poor Bulba…
So what you could say is venusaur being less popular should be more scarce and therefore more valuable
Venusaur is king
