When this many recent posts on a 1/1 Ring thread peaked my curiosity only to find out they’re about someone’s birthday

Regarding this set in general though, is this a massive set or are these universe sets usually this big?

I’ve watched people open cases of the collector booster boxes and it was a massive waste of money. Either these people were just super unlucky or it’s super difficult to get even close to your moneys worth.

Edit Opened a box. Not even close to worth it lol

I gotcha  I know Scott wouldn’t mind

Be funny if a millionaire opens it. Flys to Hawaii and throw it in a volcano

Dood! I’d pay more to see THAT than the actual card.

This whole 1/1 thing gives me Willy Wonka golden ticket vibes. Nobody cared about that chocolate once everyone thought all the golden tickets had been found.

Gimmicks were discussed in Scott’s latest Q&A and to me this is a case study if ever there was one. Hasbro leaning on the LOTR IP to claw back some reputation points. If there’s a large amount of genuine organic interest in the set outwith the serialization and people enjoy it, fantastic, but as far as perceived value goes I’m just reading the comments in this thread to see that it isn’t really there :man_shrugging:

Also a belated happy birthday @ Scott!

I mean if its going to be graded, is there really a more suitable company? The thing wont look right in a PSA case, at least to my eyes

Even if interest completely disappears after the ring is pulled, which I don’t think it will, this will still be a huge success for WOTC, and I’m sure we’ll see more golden ticket type situations in future sets.

Maybe not for the set itself but for the collectors boosters it absolutely will. Because they are absolute trash in value atm.

Imagine if they WOTC release another Harry Potter set - as it ended with Chamber of Secrets - and did something similar … WOWSERS :stuck_out_tongue:

don’t more 1/1 golden tickets inherently devalue the idea of 1/1 golden tickets

Definitely. But WOTC can milk this concept for a while until they hit the point of it not being profitable enough anymore.

Even if every single set had a 1:1 going forward, that’s still basically a lottery card that will likely fetch a huge bounty.
