Because no one cared much to find out if there were any difference other than print quality which is impossible to determine via photos online before this year. Turns out there are physical differences which you can 100% make out just from looking at a photo of the card no matter the lighting.
My guide is nothing compared to what Ghezzi has put together. I believe he has his slides on the difference of every foil on the yugiohtube forum to be access publicly. My eyes hurt from looking at 10s of the same card but Ghezzi probably went through 1000s in total to come out with what he has now. It’s worth it to have a browse. I’ll try to find a link.
It’s better late than never. Shadowless was designated in 2008 I believe. 1st edition Shadowless Machamp just recently as well. Ultimate Rares in 2018. Asian-English 2017. They are late but it’s great that they are at least doing it
It definitely is good that they are doing it, I’m just wondering what incentivized them to make this choice. Shadowless is pretty easy to spot, with these reprints it’s a bit more tricky. Ghezzi’s work is massive, thank god they have him at psa lol.
The guide is at this link for anyone that’s interested: Reprint Guide (Living Document) | Yugiohtube
(hopefully it’s not against the rules to link another forum)
At the moment it only covers LOB foils, but that’s still immensely useful.
This is hands down the most complete guide to determining Unlimited versions and all credit goes to @ghezzi_tcg on IG. There is only LOB on the document however it will be updated as time goes on.
Looks like a light of destruction box sold of $5k in less than a day on ebay. I have no clue how to value that box. I thought $5k would be a fair price but its clearly too low.
I´m very new to the market myself, a guy in the netherlands listed some blisters from that set for 250€ each a few weeks ago - I saw them but didn´t immediately buy them, when I came back they were sold out, took like 3 hours.
It is a lot rarer than PTDN and that is saying something. There is usually only one maybe two boxes for sale on ebay a year for LODT and we have seen two PTDN in the last few months alone. Going back even further to roughly late 2012, I was able to buy boxes of PTDN from some of the bigger stores for less than $100 a box (I will say that all boxes minus LOB and such were that cheap back then) but I still never found stores selling LODT. It honestly reminds me of EX Deoxys. It is that rare.
the 1st ed cards are hella expensive. The unlimited packs are overpriced compared to what cards are worth but this was such a low printed set which is where the value comes in. Combine that with the fact that this was an extremely popular set, there was not much supply left after it went out of print a decade ago. This and phantom darkness are in a similar boat in terms of scarcity as mentioned above.
Help me understand here. Looking up tcgplayer prices, 1st ed honest and jd are about $250 nm and other cards like lyla and solar recharge sitting about $60-$100 nm. Compared to other 1st ed ultis like dark neos $500 or tempest and shining flare wingman >$1000 nm. The only thing I see going for it is that LODT may have been opened up more bc of how competitive the cards were and thus little supply is left, but those are relatively low singles prices for the booster box to be worth that much. Makes me think the box itself, 1st ed included, may be way overvalued.
Probably non yugioh inverstors thinking Yugioh can blow up like Pokemon. Imo it will definitely grow, but not enough interest to ever compete with Pokemon.
As much as I love pokemon, Yu-gi-oh was pretty big for me. Used to go to toys r us back in the day for duels lol. I have a complete LOB set but want to expand a little further. I would probably at labyrinth of nightmare since I didn’t continue much past that.
