Yugiohtube made a video discussing wavy vs glossy. If I remember correctly, there are indicators that glossy came before wavy. That would make a premium on wavy even more nonsensical.
it’s pretty much confirmed that glossy came before wavy.
wavy is rarer however so it commands a premium. There’s around 20 or so wavy 10s out there and odds are pretty good that it’ll be the first english yugioh card to hit 50k and 100k and so on.
Agreed. Wavy is a joke and should less be less than a glossy copy. No reason to cost more. In the end DDS will win. LOB Blue Eyes is overrated with a broken neck. Even SDK is better.
I’m currently trying to collect the cards I loved as a kid. SDK Blue Eyes, Red Eyes, and Dark Magician were the top of the mountain back in the day. After looking on eBay daily for NM-MINT versions of these cards, I just don’t see a whole lot of 1st editions— when I do come across them, the condition is MP-EX. Do we have any idea on how many print runs of LOB/SDK/SDY there are? Is it similar to 1st edition base? Also, It appears that the paper quality of Yugioh is much more fragile and prone to damage— am I wrong here?
Funny story: One day during recess in elementary school two of the “best” duelers were playing on the cement. After the duel, my good friend swooped in and stole an Exodia card and ran into the boys bathroom to hide. A group of about 20 kids surrounded the bathroom and ordered my friend to give back the card. It felt like a robbery at a 7 eleven. Good times.
I don’t have anything to say about print run numbers, but from my experience, pack-fresh Yugioh cards (especially with older sets) are likely to come with some form of damage/wear to it (in particular the back of the card), be it scratches, dents or wax stains. Unsure if this is due to the quality of the card stock vs. the manufacturing process.
Completely agree with your statement. Most classic sets starting from Invasion Of Chaos suffer from wax stains on the back of the cards. This is likely a result of wax being applied to the back of the cards in the factory not being removed properly. Not sure how PSA feels about them though. Also centering is a nightmare in many sets.
Hello, I am looking for PSA 10 (maybe BGS 9.5 or 10) SDK, LOB, DDS Blue Eyes White Dragons. If anyone is willing to sell could you please send me a message. I feel a bit lost sorting ebay and whatnot without having a lot of experience in this scene.
Do note that there are Asian English SDK Blue Eyes that are mixed in with the pop report so always be sure to check the back of the card to make sure that what you’re buying is not the Asian English version.
Been starting to hear more rumors on IG about how allegedly the 1st Edition Dark Paladin MFC Corrected Art card isn’t actually that rare but I haven’t seen any evidence for this. Anyone know what people are talking about?
I think the more valid argument is that this card has an abnormally higher rate of mint/good condition copies than what may be perceived based on the idea that it was not a card played in decks and that it was seen purely as a collection piece from the time of its release due to the nature of its distribution.
Unless individuals come out with shoeboxes or binders full of corrected paladins, then to say that the card has a larger supply than whats readily apprehended through market data and pop reports at this time is completely speculative/anecdotal. I’d love anyone else to chime in if I’m missing any crucial details that suggests otherwise.
Could one propose that it is marginally more or less rare than the non-corrected version given what is actually known? Possibly. Does it matter? Not really.
They’d get eaten up pretty fast if there were. 18 year old surplus stock could have been given to a few people but I’d imagine they would be sold. If they were uncovered they would make their way into the hands of people who would drip feed them into the market or not sell them at all.
Take the following with a huge grain of salt, because I have actually not really an idea of the Yugioh market.
But wasn’t there a story about an ex employee or shop owner or so who had a stack of them in basically unused condition? IIRC this was one of the (or the main) reasons why the PSA 10 corrected Paladin went way down from its ~8k peak price 2-3 years back?
Everything about this comment could be wrong though, it’s just a faint memory from an YT video I watched a while back.
This is my belief too. The cards took a long ass time to arrive through the rebate. I heard one rumor that some guy had like 30 of them but even that doesn’t seem like a ridiculous number even if it’s remotely true. Like you, I believe this was just a card that was kept in better condition more often which is understandable when you consider the efforts it took to get the card in the first place.
That is an argument I hear a lot, most recently in a comment conversation I had with Ghezzi. The claim lacks any tangible evidence and is purely conjecture.
Don’t forget that most big cards spiked 2 years ago and their prices stagnated and dropped a fair bit.
It’s only the last 4-5 months have things begun ramping up.
I’ve brought surplus promo stock before so I don’t find it hard to believe that there could be someone out there with a stack but it’s also been 17 years, I think the market would absorb them. The card is still be one of the rarest English cards printed.
You’re maybe thinking of YugiohTube who mentioned it in his video titled, “YuGiOh Investing: Corrected Art Dark Paladin is the RISKIEST BUY IN THE GAME. IS IT REALLY THAT RARE”. I asked him about his pop number accuracy (Ghezzi actually has more tangible data on his IG story, just came to non-evidence based assumption) and about that exact rumor that he supports. He says,
But provided no evidence, no photos, no actual confirmation, so I have nothing to go off this. Could it be the case? Sure. But I could literally replace the term “Dark Paladin” with “LOB BEWD” and make the same claim. More interested in the actual data and proof.
“Photos of mass quantity” and “Gem Mint stash” is a pretty big claim for no photo evidence provided. There was indeed a guy back in 2018 with 30 copies who was selling them on IG. Not sure what became of him or the stash, whether someone bought them all outright or if they were dispersed into several collections.
I should point out that I don’t remember if this was the actual owner/seller or if this profile just ripped the original image of the stash. I just wanted to provide the image in question. Because
“here’s 30 corrected dark paladins”“1 like”
sets off some red flags.
This. I ran across this photo last year in my search for images of the Corrected Art and my first thought was “Why stack the cards so tightly? Why block the corner panel that would show the Yugioh embossed emblem.” At best, this shows me 2 Dark Paladins. That photo has also popped up on 2 accounts including this one which are now dead.
Edit: In an effort to be transparent and factual - me pointing out that they’re dead doesn’t provide any clear evidence on whether or not this picture is “fake”. My statement is more an effort to point out that we cannot follow up with this individual nor do we know the identity of this person in an effort TO follow up.
