Hello
Looking to acquire the holo set for 1st edition base set.
I’m not quite sure what the prices are selling for. I’ve been out the hobby for almost a year now.
I’m going off of eBay and it looks to range anywhere from 20-30k.
I have an idea of the market.
Looking forward.
could not reach agreement with buyer. keeping the Chansey and Charizard. the rest of my PSA 9 extras are heading to PWCC for the June auction as I re-shuffle my pokemon portfolio
Very important thing to say… I don’t want people to think that I’m not long on Pokemon. I’m a net buyer by far… just re-deploying the proceeds from these 9s into other cards I want. I had bought them to crack out for my binder set but they are too nice and I chickened out. And they are too nice to leave sitting in a cardboard box as “extras”. So let someone else enjoy and appreciate them. But I AM keeping the PSA 9 Charizard (in the case!). And the Chansey until I can pick up a 10
still need the chansey but that’s it. At this point I feel I have made reasonable offers. In order to smoke one out from here (already offered $8k) I would rather spend that money on other cards than on Chansey. I think that’s how the pricing for some of these low pop but “non key” cards may shake out, at least for me. What other things in Pokémon could I spend that money on that would spark the same amount of joy? If a Chansey came up for auction, trust me I am all over it.
I’ve definitely put that card on the backburner as well–my feeling is that if it never happens, it’s not a big deal since I already have a very strong 9 (as many do, I’m sure, given the difficulty of obtaining the 10). Are you planning to keep a full 9 set along with the 10? I’m getting close to finishing the 10 set in terms of number of cards (although the 9 cards I have remaining include the most difficult ones to acquire), but even if I do complete the set, I plan on keeping my 9 set. I’ve been thinking about putting the 10s in a safe deposit box and just keeping the 9s on hand.
My main goal was a PSA 10 set of 1st ed in cases and a “mint” binder set of 1st ed/shadowless/unlimited. I first bought these 9s for that binder set, but couldn’t bring myself to crack them. I cracked all of the non-holos but not these. So I bought the cleanest 8 holos I could find for the binder and cracked those instead. That kind of leaves these 9s as true extras. It feels too superfluous for me to keep them. But it certainly wasn’t my original plan to buy them and sell them. That said, it’s hard to part with any Charizard. My 10 is a thin stamp and the 9 is really clean and a thick stamp. So I’m holding onto that one…
Also, I have lots of other investments outside of pokemon so don’t need the extras from that perspective. to me it’s just about re-allocating the portfolio within pokemon, so to speak. From a pure investment, other than vintage sealed boxes, I don’t think there’s a better investment than high grade 1st ed base. EDIT: not trying to offend any trophy card or rare japanese card collectors out there - that’s a market I don’t understand and don’t play in other than “no rarity” cards but I certainly have utmost respect for.
