I don’t think we can ignore that there is a stigma around 2xx cards in the hobby(right or wrong) and it certainly affects how a lot of people value cards. I don’t expect the argument to ever die out. This will only get worse as more people join the hobby that don’t have experience with grading. So, from a investment POV, I don’t see the problem with OP putting a premium on the cert. However, by that same logic, in 5 years the same stigma will exist on 4xx cards…
I agree, the fact that we are even having this conversation legitimizes the debate
Even if it’s a misinformed point of view, if people buy into it, it will affect your potential pool of buyers and that in turn impacts the value of an item
This thread is an example of that, the OP would ostensibly buy the card listed at $420 under a different circumstance, but won’t (basically) because of the cert.
I personally think the 2 vs 4 cert thing is much ado about nothing…but if a lot of people buy into it, that makes it a legitimate factor
I’d gladly have people pay extra for 4xxxxx certs because that necessarily implies a discount for all other cards. If people want to pay extra for racing stripes on their car because it’ll make their car faster, all the power to them. I’ll just continue to buy indiscriminately and reap the benefits

Correct! The difference between 2xx and 4xx, if any, is an empirical question that should be studied.
Except I’m not sure I agree with your last sentence. PSA many have changed grading standards (or something affecting the standards, such as personnel) between 2xx and 4xx, but may not undergo any similar change between 4xx and 6xx.

What a threat, what a thread. Interesting that OP will pay such a premium on a gamble when he seems more interested in profit rather than the joy of the hobby. Considering it’s on lower end card so the assuming he is even right, the time it’d take to pay off for him to be even on the premium alone seems ridiculous. If he cares so much about maximizing profits, why not just sit on old sealed product instead of trying to min max certs on a 400 dollar card.
