Something Jacob of Pokenomics(Jake) mentioned as one big Lifegoal to achieve was a Museum about the History of TCGs. This is of course only a Plan that could work out or not, but i like the Idea.
Since E4 is one of the Best Place to find Highendcollectors and People that collect niche Tcgs/niche Cards:
Would you support with your Knowledge,Reputation,Money and most intresting with pieces of your Collection this idea?
I remember a Thread where the Question was like: If you die, what would you do with your Collection
selling, holding, giving to Kids, buried with cards^^ were the Ideas.
A Museum could be another Solution for the Collection.
Since its about the History of Tcg this would be a Project that stand or fall with the Suport of Others, since Money alone didnt work out if the Seller dont sell.
It would be awesome especially if it was Pokemon only. Pokemon should have one dedicated official Pokemon museum in the world, it could even be part of a theme park Lego-Land style. It would be absolutely massive they could have dedicated areas for the TCG, movies, games etc. Not to mention how they could integrate it into Pokemon Go as well. Why is this not a thing?!
Honestly I would want it to be about Pokemon merch in general with a TCG section. As much as we all love cards, I think itâd be relatively mind-numbing to go through and only see cards. Something I love about Museums is that you can go in a couple of times a year and always find something new. With small little pieces like that, itâd all start to look the same and kind of kill it for me.
But imagine a museum with old era kiosks, printers, gashapon stands, stickers, old toys, plush, and some cards sprinkled in? You could have old English and Japanese commercials playing on the background of certain sections. Some of it would be interactable. Games you could play. The works.
He planned it for a lot of Tcgs afaik.
As long as someone put into effort and not like the Pokecenter in NY where they not even consider to replace damaged parts. everything starts well and then with time it looks sad =( â never was there, only repeat what some people shared about their opinions why it failed
For Pokemon only it could be the Chance to include extras like music/old machines/games etc mentioned by @azulryu, close to limitless options to design awesome areas.
Imagine the refurbished vending machine posted a few days ago would be just one piece of an area O.o
I actually think this would be a great idea. Imagine when you die, you could pay a small fee and have your collection displayed in an all collectible museum with your name and maybe a video underneath or something. Make it a touristy thing somewhere in Vegas and bam.
I think an interesting spin on this would be that cards could rotate in/out. For a museum, everything they rotate is owned, but I am thinking a system where the cards are leased out by their owners.
Many already keep their expensive cards in a vault where they canât be seen. So what if this museum was treated similar to that vault system? The benefit here is that everyone can enjoy your card(s)!
You want them back? There would be a process for that. Perhaps the cards could be bought/sold using this museum as the consignment holder.
Youâd have insurance just like youâre storing the cards with anyone else. Perhaps this could all be free (or discounted) to those displaying their cards. There would be fees from folks coming in so that would pay for costs to run this too.
Honestly, I think PWCC Vault (or whatever similar service exists) is already 90% there. There would just need a place and process to view the cards of those willing to offer that up. The cards go from a vault to a wall. Thatâs the change.
Anyhow, thatâs how I would structure this.
Of course, if folks want to donate cards then thatâs welcome but I wouldnât to rely on that alone.
The idea has been discussed for ages. Just like most things in the hobby, its supported emotionally, but the legality and liability are the lynch pin. Probably just easier to incorporate cards into already existing museums.
The biggest obstacle is TPCI. A âfor profitâ venture would be an uphill battle, like Mt Everest, unless TPCI ran the whole thing. A charity project may get you a meeting?
You see, they donât need side projects like this and steer clear of things that could cause problems later like liability etc.
Weâd all like to see it. Many of us would proudly be major donors. Getting it on would be tricky though.
A museum of TCGâs would be awesome. I would want it to be a collection of different TCGâs, not just Pokemon, although that could be the largest. I would surely visit and make some donations.
A question would be what happens if the museum goes belly up. Where would all the donated cards go?
Anything of significant value would probably be on loan with accompanying bible-sized contracts rather than actual donations.
The gift vs loan situation is a bit of a clusterfuck. You donât want the entire museum to be loaned items, because then what happens when grandpa dies and his children come to cash out? On the other hand, you might have a âpermanentâ loan situation, but that can get sticky for similar reasons.
A gift is the best solution for the museum itself, preferably with a deed, but I can only laugh when thinking about how that would go in the TCG world. Sure, they may receive 2 million unwanted Base set 2 Charmanders from literally everyone, but who is going to give away the top items? Thatâs the whole reason to have a museum in the first place.
In terms of physical museums, the EMP museum in Seattle, WA is probably the closest youâd get. They have some playtest MTG cards on display, as well as a bunch of Fantasy / Sci-fi movie props and MTG/Blizzard art prints:
Most of the things there are on loan from private, family, or company collections. Itâs not a cheap museum to enter either, with tickets being around $30/person and the exhibits being quite small. Since the EMP spans all sorts of pop culture, thereâs only a small section on MTG / video games so you might feel a bit cheated if you only went for a specific topic (like Pokemon).
A physical museum is honestly something that is too much of an endeavor to do without TPCiâs support (both financially and legally). There are multiple sites out there (including mine) that are trying to build digital museums which I think is the right approach. After all, the main purpose of any museum is to educate, and the online museums accomplish 95% of the same goal with 99% less cost.
That being said if yâall are drafting up your wills and want to leave your trophy cards to me Iâll take them
