Wotc holo pattern variations on same card

So I just learned recently that the Italian versions of black star promo birthday Pikachu 24 and Pichu 35 use the galaxy foil pattern instead of the cosmos foil pattern like their English counterparts. (Some other non English languages use the galaxy pattern on the Pichu 35 as well. Not sure about the Birthday Pikachu 24).

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knows of any other cards that have a galaxy pattern version and cosmos holo version?

I know base set, jungle, and fossil have several non English versions that use the cosmos rather than the galaxy. And I know there are English fossil cosmos as well. I can’t remember if there are English jungle cosmos?

I am especially interested to find out if there are other galaxy foil pattern reverse holos (like the Pichu 35).

Lastly, just for the sake of rare variant knowledge, is there known English versions of galaxy reverse holos?

Thanks!

Thanks for making me want more cards now! :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Jk, of course I’m not mad, but dang it I do really need to get those. I love the galaxy foil! Sorry I’ve got no extra info for you, but I’ll be keeping an eye on this thread in case other people do :+1:

Giochiamo! Nice find

just yesterday i have posted my own italian pichu in another topic hehe. i will say that i have seen the german and french variant of the pichu on google pictures and those both had the star foil aswell. i’m very curious myself about how this came to be, i used to think that star foil only was printed in the USA but who knows.

Galaxy foil was used on 1999-2000 Base and French, Spanish and German Base. 1999-2000 was printed in several countries including the UK, and these foreign versions were mostly printed by Cartamundi in Belgium. 3rd printed Fossil with Galaxy foil was printed in Australia.

It’s a bit of cluster, because portuguese Base (1st ed and unlimited) had Galaxy but they were, as far as I’m aware, mostly produced in the US, and unlimited Italian base (cosmos foil) apparently also had a US run despite how the 1st ed run was produced in Belgium (also cosmos foil) alongside the other foreign versions that came out with galaxy foil around the same time. Safe to assume the foils were intertwined in terms of chronology, a lot of cosmos going on at the same time with other sets as well.

The time-window for all of this is pretty short though, so my immediate assumption would be that the use of it on this promo in 2001 is simply a matter of using avaliable/leftover stock.

i assume your right about using their leftover cardstock.

does feel a bit weird that the pikachu has the base set card design and the pichu has the neo card design. there where multiple promos released inbetween these two wich makes me believe that they printed them with allot of time inbetween them and not in the same month or so. offcourse there aren’t many printing dates known for foreign languages so who knows, maby they where behind on printing foreign promos so they did print them in the same month to catch up with english releases? just speculating here, i have though about it before but did not come up with a decent answer myself. :stuck_out_tongue:
