Why multiple Metazoo artists left Metazoo

Agree that it was only a matter of time. Although it’s “popularity” here surprised me.

I will say for the record that Metazoo is not officially dead or anything (yet) and is planning to have at least 1 more set come out. Whether or not they bounce back from this slump they’ve been in is another question. The point about moving the art in a different direction seems a bit ominous and I’m not sure if that’s just some boilerplate statement or if they actually have a plan. Still, it will be interesting to see if they can survive the year. I feel like this is the most crucial time for Metazoo and if they cannot get out of this rut then I dont see there being a 5 year anniversary celebration extravaganza :sob:

I am not interested in MetaZoo. I don’t like the art and I think the gameplay is goofy.

While I don’t believe that MetaZoo will die, its sealed product is suffering heavily right now.

Kickstarter Boxes: ~$1,300
Cryptid Nation: $180
Nightfall Boxes: $54
Wilderness Boxes: $32
UFO Boxes: $32
Seance Boxes: $51
Native Boxes: $80
Kuromi Boxes: $60

If I had to guess, MetaZoo will shrink down to a very small player and collector base. Stores will be less likely to carry it because the product will lose money or tie it up in dead inventory. Investors will ignore it for other new TCGs like One Piece or Lorcana. Maybe that’s what they need, though. Shed the investor bros and focus on a group of genuine collectors and players.

I wonder how Rudy is feeling about MetaZoo

He still acts like he cares. He has multiple rudy promos and has made bank off it so i doubt he will ever completely trash it as itd only hurt his business. He has at least mentioned that its not doing great on the second hand market and distribution is wonky.

I wanted to like Metazoo. Bought a couple of packs and it just wasn’t appealing. Honestly a different art direction wouldn’t be a bad thing. The monster art itself isn’t the problem as much as the look and feel of the whole cards. They look like something I would put together.

If they shed the investobros they will have no one left.

Ha I have to agree with this. Probably less than 5% are non-investors hence it’s downward spiral.

Even if MZ is discontinued, out-of-print, out-of-rotation, I still would not buy it. The artworks look really unpleasant and unappealing to me. Don’t know why there are people who like it? Do those people really like MZ or is it hype?

Pretty interesting video. Thank you for sharing

I mean Metazoo art style isnt everyone’s cup of tea, but when you see original artists leave, have multiple sources say that communication is non existent and have TCG stores stuck with “dead” inventory…hard to predict a happy future for Metazoo

the latter im afraid
From the very beginning, interest in Metazoo seemed to be fairly artificial and was rooted in it being “the next pokemon”. There was also A TON of people who jumped on for a quick buck. Once things started to die down, everyone jumped ship to move on to the next hyped thing (One Piece and Lorcana specifically). The actual game itself had little interest and Metazoo seemed to be more focused on doing limited promos, products, and partnerships with people than making a good card game.

Glad to see this die out…. Took long enough. The ceo gave super bad vibes off in all his interviews.
