Why do WOTC era boosters have small cuts in them?

So I’ve bought several WOTC era boosters from multiple reputable sellers, including one of the largest card shops in the hobby…

It seems that 2 of the boosters (different expansions from same seller) have small little cuts on both sides of the boosters. They’re tiny little cuts about an inch apart and go up the side in a straight line.

One of my 1st edition team rocket boosters has the same size cuts, same spacing, but it’s on the back of the booster.

Any ideas?

If they are very small pin-holes it’s to make sure the packs won’t explode under pressure while being shipped from CarteMundi in Belgium to the USA.

I noticed this myself about two years back on most sets. Specifically Rocket, Fossil, Base and Gym Heroes come to mind but I can’t recall with the Neo sets.

You still get these cuts in current day wotc MTG product.

Ok thanks guys, I never noticed them when I use to buy them in print years ago, just wanted to make sure that they hadn’t been messed with!

I had someone return packs to me because of this lol
But as others have said I would guess this is so they aren’t full of air. Helps keep the seal in tact.

If you look at modern packs very closely they have holes also, but theyre pin sized. The WOTC ones are large in comparison.

Ahhh interesting! I always wondered about that.

WOTC are spoil sports :slightly_frowning_face: #letpacksexplode
