Who has the future; vintage or current modern?

Literally thought I was reading a tidaldreams post for a sec before I saw who the poster was

I agree that that has been a thing lately. However, no need to see everything in that light. It should also be possible to just have a good old-fashioned discussion, which is what we“re doing. No need to get negative (not sure if it“s meant that way, but in case).

I’m a reverse tidaldreams lol

They will become black and white movies, like Casablanca

Okay, relax Amigo :joy: :handshake:

My point is, they will have their own nostalgia.

Stop talking about vintage so I can get cards for cheap :upside_down_face:

I will genuinely rip a rayquaza card if vintage overtakes modern in the next 2 years, thats how confident I am.

Vintage will be king in the long run. Limited population growth and eventually will become priceless as the years go on. Plus, everything modern in time will become vintage sooooo

by what metric? It already costs more on the basis that its older. Youd have to do some weird normalization to compare them

that statement is pretty meaningless unless u are talking about a specific card with a specific % gain over a specific time period

u can say bitcoin was the best investment of all time since it gained a bajillion % since 2010 but there were a million other things u could put ur money into then that wouldve all gone to 0

To clarify, I love the art and aesthetic of modern cards. I wish I could collect all of them too. My posts might come off with a different tone.

For me the issue is I have a stronger drive to complete my vintage goals. For nostalgia reasons.

But putting all that aside, when I’m forced to pick a side in a debate for which is more ā€œinvestableā€ I lean towards vintage for the reasons I said earlier. But that doesn’t mean I don’t like modern or don’t want it. I hope one day to own many of these cards, ideally when they aren’t in the spotlight as much so their prices are more stable, and after I finish my other main goals.

Just wanted to say that since there was a suggestion that E4 is against modern and my other posts might have reinforced that idea.

What’s more focused on 2 years down the line? Not too sure. 2020 it was just vintage, 2024 it’s modern, so in 2028 whatever gets the pokemon market talking the most will be a good metric

I feel like moonbreon is more of a gateway drug. These people just haven’t considered buying vintage yet as there is so much hype around specific modern cards, those get the buzz. Could be wrong though

It certainly is, it is doing what Base Set Charizard did for the late 90s which is drive PokĆ©mon’s popularity to new heights. The buzz helps explore other cards of its nature which lifts the tide on a lot of modern releases, just as Base Set Charizard did for the Original era / WOTC
