Who are your 3 favorite Pokemon artists

I was wondering what artists different folks across the forum love

SO! name your top 3, post an image of your favorite card of theirs (Pocket included) and your favorite non-card artwork of theirs (can still be Pokemon/Pokemon related)

I’ll go first!

  1. Kamonabe - https://x.com/kamonabeekon?t=yVDXUBjwi1BgOjvhaxrlzA&s=09

She has been my favorite artist who draws Pokemon art for about 2 years now. Her real watercolors look just incredible. Then with Super Electric Breaker she was hired to draw art officially for TPCi. Can’t wait for physical ARs/SARs from her to add to my collection

Favorite card - Morelull

Favorite non-card art

  1. Kuroimori - https://x.com/kuroimori_twee?t=s5gCBJAtfKAas9VwmX_XlQ&s=09

Her art is a gorgeous mix various line weights caressing soft colors

Favorite card - Gardevoir ex

Favortie non-card art

  1. Jiro Sasumo - https://x.com/j_sasum?t=WwE4VaFF24h-AyVKqYjfgg&s=09

Happy, peaceful, and bright with A LOT of trees, foliage, and flowers in most of his works

Favorite Card Art (and my top art of the SWSH block) - Leafeon VSTAR

Great question! It’s hard to narrow it down, but these are three artists I’ve been particularly enjoying lately. I am going to challenge myself here to post a non-Slowpoke for each one as well.

Sumiyoshi Kizuki

Vintage Kizuki cards are just the coolest. She uses a couple of different styles in her cards, from bright colors & simple shapes to bold, sketchy outlines.

The Slowpokes: I absolutely love Team Rocket Slowpoke, easily one of my favorite Slowpoke artworks. I love the bright colors, geometric shapes, and peaceful vibes. I also get so happy whenever I see Recall, it’s just such a good card.

The non-Slowpoke: This Butterfree is so good, and it’s really nostalgic for me as I had the holo version in my childhood collection.

The non-Pokemon: She posts some amazing stuff on X, but I’m particularly fond of the way she depicts cats.

Miki Tanaka

Tanaka's aesthetic just makes me smile. The bright colors and the minimalism give each of her cards a really special and distinct feeling.

The Slowpoke: This card truly is THE Slowpoke. As many people on this forum know, I probably have around 200 copies of this card. The Slowpoke Of All Time (SLOAT).

The non-Slowpoke: This is a real challenge, her work brings such a smile to my face whenever I see it. I have to go with a tie between her Teddiursa and Togepi, both of which are nostalgic for me and carry some fond memories.

The non-Pokemon: Her animal portraits are SO good.

Yuka Morii

Morii's clay cards rule. As a kid I always thought they were kind of weird, but as an adult the distinct aesthetic has really grown on me. I have a few different artist binders and Morii's was the first one I started.

The Slowpoke & Slowbro: I love how Slowbro is just waddling around here.

The non-Slowpoke: Don’t mess with this Poliwrath. He angry.

The non-Pokemon: I love the little cats she makes! She posts so many on Instagram!

The easiest question for me, even though there are a lot of promising new artistis the top 3 is cemented for me, especially the number one. I’ll skip the non-pokemon card part for 2 and 3 as i’m not familiar with their other art but these are my favourites from Tomokazu Komiya, Shinji Kanda and Sowsow

(I know it’s a card but not a tcg card)

My top 2 favorite illustrators are:

  1. Naoyo Kimura
  2. Mizue

As for the third, I honestly don’t know? So many more artists to choose from: Kagemaru Himeno; Mitsuhiro Arita; sowsow; chibi; Cona Nitanda; Gemi; etc. I might get back to this later on after I went through all Pokémon TCG illustrators.

As for my favorite TCG card artworks from the first two:

Favorite non-card Pokémon artworks:

Favorite non-Pokémon artworks (although tbh, this was the first time I even looked at non-Pokémon artworks for either - and it also wasn’t easy finding non-Pokémon artworks for Naoyo..):

BABA
I love the feeling of their art, which can be incredibly expressive. I generally really like a child-like, rich in texture style.

KIZUKI
I love the great use of shapes, both the thin- or thick-border styles.

FUKUYAMA
Absolutely amazing works, with those bright colors and joyful Pokemon. The postcards illustrations are stunning.

Honorable mentions to Kusajima, Umemoto, Himeno, Kanako Eo, of course. I appreciate Kouki Saitou a lot too.

  1. Tomokazu Komiya

  2. Aya Kusube

  3. Kedamahadaitai Yawarakai

  4. Honorable mention: Shinji Kanda

I don’t much of Kusube or Yawarakai’s work outside of Pokemon, so if someone can direct me to an IG or twitter, I would be appreciative

It’s really cool seeing how all these artists draw outside a card frame

Yawarakai - https://x.com/79vg_R?t=qS9ZunEI0BsgjTpZgqm37w&s=09

Aya Kusube - She doesn’t really have any internet/social media presence as far as I know

IDK about top 3, but a new fave is Metazo. Oddly impressionistic bleak, but not depressing style.

Arita is still my fave tho.
