Which would you rather have, and which is the better long-term investment?

I’m interested in getting some outside opinions from fellow collectors and investors.

Imagine you had to choose between one of these two Pokémon items, which would you go for, and why?

Item A
• Giratina V Alternate Art from Lost Origin
• PSA 10

Item B
• Japanese Pokémon Stamp Box
• Still sealed
• Comes with the Pikachu and Cramorant promo cards

Photos of both will be attached below.

I’d love to hear thoughts on:

  • Personal preference: which one appeals more to you?

  • Long-term outlook: which do you believe holds stronger future value?

  • Do you lean more toward graded chase cards or sealed products with exclusive promos?

Curious to see how different people approach this choice. Appreciate any insights!

As a personal preference, I would go for the stamp box, as I dislike graded cards and have a strong affinity for special promos, especially non-English ones. I would then promptly open it to enjoy, as I also dislike keeping most products sealed

Buy for your enjoyment first and foremost. I’m not here to knock anyone’s particular taste in cardboard, but if your first thought on these is “How much can I make in the future?” then consider if you really want to collect Pokemon cards or just want cash (nothing wrong with that of course, but time and place). I say this with all of the kindness in my heart, but if you want an investment, go to the stock market.

I’d rather go with the stamp box. I love that style of old school Japanese art and it’s more “limited” than the Giratina Alt Art. The only ding against the stamp box for me is that I’ve grown to genuinely hate having sealed product. It’s bulky, awkward, and stressfull to store long term. Especially if you were to own multiple stamp boxes.

The Giratina is a beautiful card though.

Neither lol, they’re both overspeculated and there are better opportunities right now.
If I had to pick one, I would pick the stamp set

I think for me Item B, as you have a few options with it. You could sell the whole sealed set, or open and sell and/or grade the individual cards. It also has good value to Pikachu collectors specifically.

In comparison with Item A, a modern graded PSA 10 is also not super difficult to obtain most of the time. There could still be countless ones pop up in the future, but the promos will always be more limited/unique overall compared to any regular set card.

I would go for option A. The Giratina Alt Art is the second best known chase card from Sword & Shield. It is much safer.

At the same time though, I would go for neither of these.

Stamp box is infinitely cooler

I like the stamp box more, but it really has nothing to do with investment value and more to do with what I personally value:

  1. I like the stamps themselves, even without the cards
  2. I like the unique art of the stamp promos
  3. I love that the art of the promos has a cultural tie in to where it was released
  4. I actually think the box is kind of cool, and even if everything it comes with gets removed I would still use it to store Pokemon things I collect
  5. I truly don’t really care about Giratina as a Pokemon, and in this particular art it looks like a centipede :man_shrugging:t2:

I think if you asked this question somewhere other than E4, it’s likely you would get more people telling you to buy the PSA 10 Giratina. I would recommend truly just stepping back for a second and asking which one you would want to have sitting on your shelf to look at more and go from there.

Good luck!

I d go for the stampa box personally.

Always remember that the safest investiment is in what you really like.

Probably two of my favourite modern cards of the ones i’ll most likely never own :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: i love them but not for that price

Stamp box is unique, giratina is good but it gets a bit lost in the noise of all the other amazing alt arts of the era

Stamp box for me

Personally I’d like the Giratina in LP condition to put in a binder, I’m not interested in graded cards or Japanese promos.

Stamp box. Be very careful with storage.

I’d $tonk up on the $tamp box. I don’t have any interest in either, the base trio stamps are great but their beauty is unfortunately ruined by not being on a sheet of their own as they should’ve been. Contrary to other commemorative Japan Post releases, the sheet itself also has to look terrible for some reason.

Not trying to clown, but honestly I don’t think anyone’s investments are the safest in shiny childrens cardboard. I’d invest into something safe, and if your feeling risky go into something risky. But in general I’d do both of those in other forms of investment ie. Stocks, crypto (which I personally don’t think is a good idea), and nfts of feet

I personally like the Giratina art.

Not a fan of the original Beauty Looking Back art or Arita’s homage.

As for the Cramorants, hate the Pokemon so it’s a no. Love the original art Wild Geese Flying Under the Moon

P.S -

n-f-eets is genius, I’ll see myself out

I would vote neither if your sole purpose is to make money off of the purchase.

Not sure if I mentioned this earlier, but Stamp Boxes didn’t come with the entire box sealed (there is a sealed pack holding the cards but that should be easier to store than trying to preserve the whole box).

The boxes were shipped to the post offices as-is with a pile of resealable plastic bags. If the post office you picked up the boxes from didn’t bother to pack the boxes for you, you will just get the box and a plastic bag separately, and it’s up to you whether to tuck the box into that bag and seal it or not.

With that in mind, you can basically store the box and contents separately if you feel more comfortable doing so. Sadly investors would scream “no the box must come sealed! You opened it so I’m gonna lowball you!”, but hey you’re a collector, you know the truth and you’re not selling for money anyway, so why bother?
