Crystal represents perfection to me.

Silver because I remember, like it was yesterday, being 7 years old and my mom buying it for me new at walmart. I played it every chance that I got and still have that same copy today.
Gen 2 quickly became my favorite set of pokemon and the gen 2 games were just such a huge leap in technology and were put together way better.
There are several games in the series that I want to pick, but overall it has to be Ruby & Sapphire, choosing anything else just doesn’t feel right.
In my opinion, the Gen 3 games were the biggest leap forward in the entire series. Graphically they’re still some of the best looking Pokemon games, they have quite possibly the most consistently amazing soundtrack of the series, and most of the gameplay improvements were natural progressions that instantly became essential parts of the core experience, rather than gimmicks. I’ve got nothing against Mega evolutions, Z-moves, or Dynamaxing (okay, maybe just a little bit against Dynamaxing) but they’re the type of additions that can easily be removed in future generations without altering the core gameplay mechanics. But can you imagine them ever getting rid of something like Abilities?
Those are the points it earned fairly - now for the unfair nostalgia part. More than any other Pokemon game before or since, I associate Ruby & Sapphire with a specific period of my life and the group of friends I played it with. At a time when Pokemon seemed to be fading from the consciousness of most people around us, we played those games together more consistently than any of the other entries. I remember linking up our GBAs for battles, I remember looking for each other’s secret bases, this one has nothing to do with friends but I still remember my berry route that I would check every day.
There are so many other games in this series that are great in their own ways that I want to mention, but if I start down that path then I’ll end up mentioning every game and my answer won’t mean anything. So for me it has to be Gen 3 at the top, just some all-around great Pokemon games.
