What's the least you paid for vintage boosters?

I was buying EX Deoxys packs at $5cad a pop before they were “vintage”

I remember when skyridge packs were at that price. I hate my life for not buying any when I could have… I never would have guessed they were gonna skyrocket the way they did so fast. But I didn’t realize ex stuff was still that cheap then, wow!

In June of 2017 when I got back into collecting I bought 4 base set booster packs for $165 USD! Thats 41.25 a pack. I remember that was “a good deal” then. I think they were in the mid 50ish - 60ish dollar range at that time. I gave one of the packs to a buddy of mine and still have the other three sealed! Those 3 packs started my sealed collection. I wish I would have been focused on sealed product then, I would have comfortably been able to afford and bought sooo much! I just bought them for the heck of it, the concept of sealed product collecting wasnt even a thought in my head at that time.

I can’t remember the exact prices I paid, but I believe when I purchased 1st edition Gym Heroes and 1st edition Gym Challenge booster boxes back in 2009 I only paid in the ballpark of $150-200 for each.

I paid $140 for 34 packs of Sealed Ex magma vs. aqua packs about 2 years back.

Unfortunately did not buy the opened box of 36 skyridge packs for $1200 that he offered me… we all make mistakes.

Well, I suppose I could look at like this: I absolutely would’ve opened the box lol. Perhaps someone smarter than I bought it and still has the box sealed

I don’t have many old boosters, but I guess the best deals I’ve got was $32 for a 1st. ed team rocket booster, and $67 for one of those starter gift boxes that comes with the 2 decks and a jungle pack. Bought both about a year and half to 2 years ago and still have them.

I’ve bought packs of every set at their MSRP, but reflecting on tournaments from way back when is crazy when I remember cases and cases of TRR being opened at regionals for prize support, or buying leftover Delta Species and Unseen Forces booster boxes from my old tournament organizer for $70 each.

I’ve won packs of every set from Emerald through like, Black and White and then different ones here and there depending on school lol. So those were free.

£10 each for some Jungle, Fossil and Base Set 2 boxes back in 2000 or 2001 from a store which was clearing its old stock. That’s £0.27 per pack.

Around 2012 or 2013 I bought Two base Set booster boxes for $100 each. Sold them for $500 and thought I was soo slick. Woops. I wasn’t even into the card hobby at the time; I was searching for Pokémon plush and the boxes came up.

I bought these from T&T way back. Considering current market valuation, my best buy ever.

@mikejofthecoast, I got back into collecting the around same time you did. The first thing I did was buy skyridge packs lol. 190 each (was high at the time), got 2.

90% of my allowance prior to 8th grade went towards pokemon though, so before emerging powers made me quit the TCG, I did manage to snag at least a couple packs at MSRP from each set all the way since base. Good times biking to the local walgreens, getting their 9.99 lucario tins that came with 2 ex packs (ranged from deoxys to power keepers) and 1 DP pack, opening them after school with my friends. I have 20 lucario tins just lying around under my bed at home from that time.

The last time I checked prices before 2017 was when dacardworld had skridge box for 500, ex power keepers for 49.99 on clearance, and basically every ex era box still at or close to msrp. Think dragon frontiers was like 130? FRLG was actually the most expensive ex box if I remember correctly, and even that was only 200.

It still blows my mind that the cards are worth so much now, and I regret that I always bought whatever was on the shelves, and never once bought any vintage stuff. But at the same time, I don’t really regret anything because I was around since the earliest era, and no matter how young I was, I always bought as much as I could, and it’s not like I would have passed up the diamond and pearl/HGSS era entirely just to buy the ex era/wotc cards that no one was playing with anymore.

4.50 Gulden (old Dutch currency) (~3 USD) and later on 3.50 euros (~5 USD - using the currency exchange of back then, since the Euro dropped quite a lot since 18 years ago) for unlimited edition Base Set all the way up to EX Crystal Guardians in 1999-2007 at the local toy stores.

Never bought any older packs or boxes later on, except for a Red Logo Aerodactyl artwork Fossil pack last year for 250 USD.

@drazirahc, dude that’s psycho! How long ago was that? And how did you manage to still have a screen shot of that receipt?

@cross I thought the same thing as i was posting it dude

Such a great topic. June 17, 2017 I was at a local silent auction. I was there for two lots. One was a binder of about 1400 BW era cards and another was a lot of non-sports cards packs. Among the Elvis Presley and lion king packs were two base set and two fossil packs (One fossil was 1st ed.)

Ended up battling this lady for the binder and let her have it for 80 dollars or so after fees.

You’d think she would’ve noticed the Pokemon packs too? Nope, I win with a bid of $7 (10 after fees)

It was a good day
