If I made a big sale of Pokemon, I would use it to buy really big Pokemon cards that I never thought I could afford. Then, if there is anything left, I would save it or invest it.
Yeah, unless you’re in a situation of serious financial difficulty (living in poverty / in serious debt) I don’t think many people realize just how little difference $1 million actually makes. You can’t just quit your day job and be set. Can you retire a few years earlier, go on slightly fancier vacations, and own a slightly bigger house? Sure. But for the most part life stays the same.
I’m not here to speak in riddles… saying buying more pokemon cards is funny, but do you have other plans, such as making a difference in the world, donating to causes you love, etc.?
Haha. Actually, the mega jumbo oversized ones! I mean like really expensive Number 1 Trainers, Tropical Mega Battle Cards, 100K Kangaskhan, Pokemon Illustrator (assuming I more than just a couple million dollars).
@cullers , Ah I did not mean to troll, I have edited my post to be more sincere. I am taken aback by the idea that if there is a policy in place for certain sealed policies and that it is abused for profit by not so nice folks of the community.
But like if you make a massive sale, what % do you donate do the causes you love? (reinvest in pokemon is not donating to a cause)
-Could be starting new ventures, giving to charities, etc. not everyone stays and works within pokemon.
Perhaps on a smaller level than some of the discussions being had here, but I sold a fair portion of the cards in my collection a couple years back and bought my first car. I sold because the value of those cards had reached a point where I would be able to sell them, make a major and important change in my life, and still proceed with the collection goals I felt were the most important. I think when you can sell cards and make a major change in your quality of life with the money, that’s the best time to do it. Maybe there will be another time when I will be able to sell parts of my collection and do a similar thing again.
I haven’t changed my collecting at all since, and I doubt it would change if I sold stuff off again. Nor have I really changed my lifestyle beyond not driving around in a 2000 Toyota Camry anymore!
It was always funny to me how 1 million USD is monumental in some countries and can be lived on for a very long time, then in Ohio it’s a very nice house, and then in California/NY it’s just a studio apartment
At a certain point you become bored even with a lot of money when you seem to " have it all" so naturally convert back to what makes you happy - Pokemon Cards. Least for me
That’s great if people have made a lot of selling pokemon cards. How do you give back, are there specific charities you enjoy donating to? Conservation of animals?
I don’t have any specific charity I continue to support but I donate $20-$100 to a lot of various charities mainly people I watch on YouTube that raise money. Also I think many people don’t know or forget this but you can donate to efour! Go to the home page and scroll to the bottom for a PayPal link.
I would probably take the money and then buy lower grades then pocket the rest of the cash. I can be bought, but i love the hobby to much to abandon my stake in it
Some have suggested they would give to their family and friends if they made a big sale and it appears some have already made large sales. Do you buy your folks/extended family another home and generously provide for friends? They may now have the finances to help save the world or whatever cause they enjoy donating to as well, not just the I bought myself a car stories. My response would be the same if they bought a lambo, where else are they contributing to?
