What to do with Base Set Unlimited Booster Box - Damaged

Hey everyone

Was wondering what you guys would do with a damaged Base Set Unlimited Booster box.

We recently got a hold of 2, one in much nicer condition than the other. We knew about condition before purchasing the boxes.

Do you think we should record opening the Booster Box and selling as 100% unweighed packs, or try and sell the box as sealed? Do we try and sell the packs before we bust the box live, and have people pick their packs as they are coming out of the box?

Will people pay a premium for packs if they know its coming out of a freshly opened box?

What would you personally do with a damaged Base Set Unlimited Booster box, knowing we have a better condition Booster Box in our possession already.

Thanks in advance for your input!

How damaged are the boxes? Risk that the packs and cards are damaged as well?

I dont think the packs will be damaged. I will try and post a picture

Here are some pictures of the damaged corner:

@canucksfan007 ,

I would simply resell as sealed. You can’t beat a sealed price and as @garyis2000 always says “Always assume weighed”. Even with good intentions and video, the only ABSOLUTE guarantee is to keep it sealed. That will get the premium price. The damage does not appear bad enough to worry about pack damage in my opinion, so it should sell high for the guaranteed experience of opening an unsealed box.

Merry Xmas and happy holidays!

Thanks for your input @joer

Agree. I was under the impression that they might have been run over by a car or something by how concerned you sounded in the original post. Still has extra value sealed, even if banged up a tad.

That box looks good to me. It’s not Mint, but I would keep it as is. Of course, expect a couple hundred less when you sell it.

Wait… Are people really paying $100/pack now!? The boxes seem to earn less than $2500.

I was also quite shocked to see the value of the loose packs as well. I think if we can go the route of selling 36 loose packs, and have them sold before the box opening, kind of make it an event, we may do better that way

Definitely!

Actually, I expected these prices for packs but I would have expected boxes to be in the same price range.

This seems to be a current trend for many sets.

Keep her sealed…

@canucksfan007,

You have to value your time too. Selling 36 packs may take longer and require more listings. The more loose packs you sell at once the cheaper the price usually too I would think. In the end is the couple hundred extra worth your time and effort? I expect you can come close enough to the single booster price over 36 packs to make leaving it sealed worth your time.

Plus, you never know. What if you open it and a couple packs are dinged? Then you wont sell them as easily. I imagine 100 is for a Mint pack, but I could be wrong.

Well the difference is quite substantial here plus he wants to sell all 36 packs before he even breaks the seal which is smart.

In this shape, his box will barely earn more than $2000 at current prices. The packs should easily earn him upwards of $3000. It’s too much of a no brainer.

Here’s what I would do since it hasn’t been mentioned.

Sell the three artworks with ONE guaranteed holo in each lot for 325.00 w/free shipping.
12 sales and you’re done.
Everybody knows exactly what they’re getting so no complaints.

You can send my consultation fee to my paypal;)

Hmmm Gary, thats not a bad idea.

Do you 100% of the time get 12 Charizard Packs, 12 Venusaur Packs and 12 Blastoise Packs

I know we arnt able to sell here, we have about 500+ followers on IG, I think thats a good place to start!

I think we will seriously consider this option. A few hiccups I can think of:

As mentioned above, are you guaranteed to get 12 of each artwork?

and a follow up to that …

What are the odds were going to be able to break the packs perfectly into 12 different lots, all containing a holo and all containing the 3 different artworks?

The last time I broke a box of this stuff was in 2000 so my memory is a bit fuzzy =P

I love the 3 packs 1 holo style.
As a buyer, that’s what you want.
Either sell the box (it looks fine) or go with Gary’s plan!

I would keep it sealed. The amount of sealed boxes are declining at a good pace each year since everyone is opening them to for various reasons.

I don’t recall getting anything but, but I’m sure it’s happened. Wouldn’t worry about it.

Yes, you should get an even mix of 12 per artwork with 4 holos in each 12 pack lot…
