I also got a pair of gold earrings of a running borzoi enameled in black! The little pouch has a show lead made of kangaroo leather the same person gave me and attached to it is a show collar Bourbon’s breeder bought for me. Was told I really needed to practice to make sure she shows good!
As a little update to my last post of all the magazines, I’ve been nominated for a leader position for the Archive Comittee for one of the major organizations! I also have scanned a bunch of stuff in with permission and have permission for other things, just haven’t done it yet.
Those are all amazing finds!!! I run across borzoi stuff frequently and have picked up small figurines cause sighthound solidarity.
I was looking though my photos on my phone and stumbled across this borzoi statue that was at a estate sale a few years ago.
I had been interested in getting it but everything was very overpriced and i didn’t really have a reason to like i would have if it had been a deerhound.
Your posts always remind me how much i want to get a borzoi so i can have both . And Paula keeps talking about retiring and “no more litters” and it regurally sends me into a tail spin. To top it off Ollies gonna be 6 this year
I don’t have much insight into the breeding programs of most borzoi breeders (or they don’t breed very often) but know their dogs enough to get an idea. I really do want a deerhound one day, I met some recently and they were all so wonderful, really made me want ine but I don’t think that will happen until I have my own place and have a borzoi litter (at least the plan is to breed Bourbon in a few years if she’s healthy and wins a “few” things lol) Maybe Paula isn’t retiring so soon, or maybe she could recommend you guys to another deerhound breeder? I feel pretty sure she would try and help you guys out since for there to be more deerhounds there have to be homes.
I don’t really see borzoi or any sighthound items very often when I go out shopping. Almost all my borzoi things were given to me or a couple I bought. Hopefully I pay off my car and CC, or just seriously lower my debt, soon so I can then save up and look for my own place! Still thinking a few acres and a tent may have to be the way to go lol and I have the tent!
@lyleberr thank you so much! It’s a lot of hardwork and just research anything about sighthound sports and stuff is so incredibly difficult, doesn’t help so many people just throw things away too. I’m excited to hopefully be approved and start working on preserving some of the history of sighthounds and sports. Even more so as so many of the people my age (or even in their 30s) don’t know the history and don’t really care because It’s just so hard to find.
It’s a bit odd I suppose, everyone mentions the history but never talks about it. Sylvia is related to some really good dogs and I can see pictures of her relatives in these magazines. Not only that but some of them contain the only known photographs of some major dogs. And that’s the other thing, it’s about the dogs and the people, I can see the achievements some of my now friends made 20-40 years ago and I know some people get to read things their friends/family who have passed have written.
Our region in the sport has trophies dedicated to the breeder Bourbon’s breeder got their first borzoi from and now we’re trying so hard to get a dog to run and win the trophies. She didn’t know those trophies existed and had a really good relationship with that breeded. Those trophies are also filled, like more than 50%, with dogs also related to Sylvia. Hopefully this year we can make another attempt at them! I’ve also donated a trophy in honor of Sylvia, she’s done nothing special but she’s the reason why I got into the sport.
Congratulations on your nomination. Your dedication and passion into this is really paying off and it is well deserved.
Does archiving mean around the sport aspects of the breed or the history of the breed as a whole? It is pretty cool what you are trying to do. I wish you all the success.
Edit: ohh I think some of your later comments explained what I had asked.
1st part: scan in and preserve the physical hound records spanning 25-30 years before the organization developed their current computerized records program. When that program was developed and implemented they just never added those records. Now they’re developing a new (and hopefully much better) records program where the Records Coordinator will undertake the task of transcribing all the information off the scans. I will most likely offer to help because, as just a little insight into the amount of records, there are 10 boxes and each box is a minimum of 25lbs of records
2nd part: scan in all the magazines (which the organization thankfully has a complete set!) and any supplemental materials (unknown if they have any, I do have some in my personal collection I can include with the proper issues.) The magazines are a wealth of information on dogs and the early years, not to mention a great glimpse into the evolution of the sport. The early years are also a great time period as you can see the heavy connection to the actual sport of hunting our sport is attempting to emulate. The use of these scans will be to allow anyone to access and read them if they so choose and for articles to be recycled into the modern replacement of the magazine (which is digital only.) The last two weeks have been arguments that have, hilariously, happened 30+ years ago in these magazines!
ETA:
All this work will end up preserving the history of the sport and of the breeds/dogs who participate(d) in the sport. My hope is, once all the scanning is done, to make an effort to also find all the trophies, current and retired, and take photographs of them so we can create an exhaustive gallery of the trophies for folks to look through. There are some beautiful trophies out there!
Here is a sample scan that has a dog related to Sylvia (direct relative)
Awesome collection!!
I’d love to have a few of these someday.
Do you know if wata/psa grades loose CD’s?
I have the Halo 2 I love bees disc that I’d love to get encapsulated. Just not sure if it could be done.
Ordered this commission at Legends Expo last year and finally got to see. I’m in stunned how beautiful this came out. Makes me want to make an album just to use this as the cover.
Finally found a second hand epson perfection v600 photo scanner for a decent price in europe after looking for one for a while, just received it today so only had the time to test it with few cards but I really like the quality so far, can totally recommend it to anyone whos looking to take really clear photos of graded cards etc.
An update to this post and also this post, neither of them is technically most recent as i purchased them during the end of last year but i haven’t gotten to post them and also haven’t yet had time to read the books or play the game so they are still quite fresh to me anyway i have all the H. P. Lovecraft books now and enough character packs to play Hero realms campaign so happy to have them no matter when i have time to actually enjoy the contents
