I was the same, but the thing with Incineroar is that it appears in Smash Bros. Since playing with it there, I actually started liking it, and that goes for more people. Come to think about it, I actually think Incineroar might become a big deal.

Genuine question: what are some previous examples of pokemon that weren’t popular immediately but became more popular down the line? I agree with the sentiment that if a pokemon isn’t popular immediately, it most likely won’t be in the future. I’m only thinking of Wooper, but I’d say that’s more as a meme, I’m not sure if that translates to more people now masterset collecting Wooper.
Now that you mention this, was Umbreon actually popular at launch? The last set I opened as a kid was Neo Discovery but I dont remember talking about it at school anymore. Even after coming back to collecting later on, I dont remember Umbreon being the chase, it was just a cool Pokemon.
Don’t think it was as popular as it is now. Jolteon is the one that has fallen down the ranks over time for whatever reason.
I does feel like its stock has risen significantly over the years. Same with Gengar. They’ve both always been good but I don’t remember either having the rabid fan base they have today
Haha I remember when those ‘smiley’ front ends came out. I always thought they looked kinda goofy but they’ve left me in the dust on a couple occasions. That’s certainly a creative use of the body lines ![]()
Next superstar is going to be munchlax.
Give it 5-7ish more years and Greninja will achieve torchic/mudkip status
Krabby’s been in several episodes, movies and memes, people just haven’t realized it yet. Any crab could be krabby in disguise.
Why are there only 11 cards featuring Krabby? For a gen 1 pokemon this is travesty.
Bye Masago. ![]()

I don’t know if I’m making this up in my head, but I swear back in the day the battle of the starters was always Charmander vs Squirtle, and if you picked Bulbasaur you were lame. But now, Bulbasaur absolutely is up there, and I think beats both Charmander and Squirtle in terms of popularity (but doesn’t beat Charizard obviously)
I do feel like I’ve seen a lot more love for silly, derpy, and cute Pokemon in the past year. Psyduck, Slowpoke, and Wooper come to mind. Wooper specifically has come up before when I ask what people are collecting/who they like, specifically with women I’ve asked. I’m not convinced it’s a meme. I do wonder if we are seeing a bigger rise to popularity with these Pokemon.
I immediately thought back to the Spartans video and am now rewatching it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lF7wqSf1ag
