I’m having some trouble figuring out which cameos these are… This artwork appears to depict that there is a stadium battle, but I’m not sure which Pokemon are fighting each other. The art appears to be intentionally lacking detail so it makes it a little harder to decipher what exactly we’re looking at.
Given that there is clearly a Machop in the foreground, it makes sense if the top left Pokemon is depicting the same Machop. I think it could also be a Machoke, but it makes more sense for it to be Machop. What are your thoughts?
The second Pokemon in the background appears to be an Oddish, but the leaves feel off to me. I know this could just be due to lack of detail, but I’m wondering if anyone sees any other Pokemon here.
The final possible Pokemon cameo is on Machop’s headband. I checked Komiya’s other artwork from the time and I wasn’t able to find anything that looked similar. The coloring makes me think of Alakazam, but there are a lot of things that don’t match… It also reminds me a bit of Scyther but the coloring is wrong and it’s missing the wings.
Is this a person with a hat and their arms stretched out holding things?
Is this some weird depiction of an arena where there are two Pokemon on opposing platforms?
Yeah I saw that too. Almost looks like we’re looking at someone from behind and they’re wearing a top hat with something on top of it and balancing plates or something lol
What a good thread this is. I honestly have no thoughts other than what’s already been said. Oddish makes sense. The headband I’m not sure of at all. I’m looking forward to see what others think.
I would guess that the headband Pokemon is Charizard. It has the general morphology seen there if you assume the red behind the yellow figure are supposed to be wings.
