What languages do you collect?

I mainly collect Japanese, but I have certain English collections too. I also have a small Portuguese collection on the side

I thought I’d only ever collect English but expanded to Japanese due to the different border and some exclusive artwork. Only thing that would draw me to another language is some sort of aesthetic difference. There’s a small part of me that wants to do every language for my Tropius collection tho

For my personal collection, mainly English with Japanese exclusives. However, I will collect any and all cards that I find value in as I have possessed various languages that I have traded/sold in the past.

Now for something completely different: I collect English and Japanese cards. Super original, I know.

English primary and Japanese if it did not come out in English.

Japanese, English and Portuguese in that order.

I am a Portuguese native, but even though it is my language, the card text looks weird in languages other than English or Japanese. Looking at my 1st Edition Portuguese Charizard as I type this and ‘Chama Furacão’ definitely doesn’t have the same appeal as ‘Fire Spin’ or its Japanese hieroglyphic equivalent.

In all seriousness, maybe the quality of the translations has a negative impact on our appreciation of the cards in our native languages. I have to say though, I am really happy that Pokemon names weren’t translated to Portuguese. The French ‘Dracafeu’ and German ‘Glurak’ are gringeworthy.

All of them

Complete English sets of 1st ed Base through Call of Legends. Old Back Japanese and VS series. I have some Chinese base set and Legend Maker since I had to learn Mandarin for my job. Also have Italian, Spanish, Korean, Portuguese, and German since the Worlds promos come in those languages.

Interesting! What language is your favorite? (If English and Japanese are first and second place, what comes third?)

English and Japanese, English is what I grew up on and Japanese Wotc Holos are very very beautiful. I prefer English but givin PSA Japanese Holos price point (which is rapidly getting higher) I seem to end up collecting alot of those especially PSA 9 base-fossil lately, still very cheap and once I get them and stare at them I am amazed

Dutch - Base Set First Edition and Base Set Unlimited only
English, Japanese, Dutch - Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, Venusaur

I have random German and Portuguese cards, but I have more fingers so can’t really call that “a collection”.

Gotta go with Chinese, especially with how rare the releases are!

Being a Brit I naturally collect German cards - the German language is awesome. As well as English and Japanese. Standard.

I collect English - Japanese - Dutch. Japanese has go up in value so fast lately when it stayed years so much more affordable. I’d remember I could buyed a complete base - jungle or fossil set for 20 - 30 euro a set (mint), and that for a long time.
