I just got a weird scam attempt from a random FB user on a pokemon listing. His profile is now gone.
Here’s the whole exchange. What kind of weird scam tactic is this? Oddly specific number and then asks if we can meet alone.

Joined facebook in 2022 is a huge red flag
Lets meet in a dark alley somewhere. Be sure not to bring anyone with you and leave your phone at home …be careful out there everyone
“Can you meet up with me by yourself? btw you’re not a cop right? You have to tell me if you’re a cop”
What an idiot. Im pretty sure most people go alone when selling irl so asking was completely unnecessary and shows your true colors.
I know it is super obvious, but:
- Always meet in daylight hours if possible
- Meet in a public setting with plenty of spectators
- If you feel unsafe and the item is worth a significant amount of money, consider meeting at a police station
- Trust your gut - if someone is sounding creepy, they probably are
My red flag senses are tingling
My first thought was he was confirming the zip code. I can only assume the scam would be to confirm you have a highly valuable item and then rob you in person.
Always good to have reminders!
“sure, but I’m bringing a gun if that’s ok with you.”
The only situation I can think of where this wouldn’t be insanely sketchy is if the buyer was a green 15-year old who’s read a bunch of horror stories online and decided to put his first, unprocessed thought into a message.
Tell him yes and bring some cops with you
(I kid, this is sus af)
At least he didn’t join twitter in 2022.
Maybe that was the sale price… for your kidney.
Hell, there was a dude locally that had a date with a girl. They went through the WHOLE DATE in public, then when they walked to his car (IDK the pretense) a bunch of guys followed and jumped him. Actually all got caught in the end, but… that’s commitment. Always be careful.
Yeah, just me an my 9mm.
