Ill start.
I just realised (forgive me if you already knew this), that english is the only language printed that the cards are in imperial measurements.
All other languages are in metric…
I discovered when returning to the hobby that they really cheaped out on english cards.
Modern english at least have a clear coat varnish on the back, but unlike Japanese cards the vintage english did not
You can test this by taking a colorless blender or any alcohol based substance to the back of vintage. If you tried on a Japanese card, nothing happens. Same with all modern. But with vintage english the blue will immediately spread
I guess though, this is actually a good thing for pokemon. The reason so many ppl came back to the hobby from childhood is because they heard about prices of some of these vintage cards and it peaked their interest and memory lane.
If all those English actually had good quality, there would be way too many psa9s and psa10s and there wouldnt have been these $200k+ charizard cards making headlines
On the flipside, vintage is pathetically frail because there is nothing protecting the rears. Ive turned a psa10 into a psa 8 just by accidentally squeezing too hard with my index finger and somehow fading the boarders
That the cardstock ‘grain’ on the reverse of Japanese Expansion Pack (“Base Set”) No Rarity error cards forms a parallel line pattern, whereas the pattern on the corrected cards containing rarity symbols is a more chaotic, similar to what you would see in full-grain leather.
Yes this is another No Rarity post from JoshB, get over it
I can look at a card border and tell someone the year range it was printed without seeing any other part of the card which I know seems normal for everyone in here but to most people that is weird
I created a similar thread back in 2018 to which I’ve added things a couple of times: Random TIL moments
To just quote portions of those facts here:
[quote=“thymeee, post:69, topic:21493, full:true”]The Mewtwo from the CD and the Mewtwo from the Pocket Monsters fan book are the same art but just a mirror image.
Grandpa Drampa - “If a child it has made friends with is bullied, Drampa will find the bully’s house and burn it to the ground.”
Meanie Mareanie - “Unlike their Alolan counterparts, the Mareanie of the Galar region have not yet figured out that the branches of Corsola are delicious.”
There is some chemical out there that removes holo but leaves the art behind, no clue what the heck it so but I’ve seen it on a few different cards now
