In my opinion, a grail card is a card that you are proud to own AND that you expected to be hard to find. It’s NOT necessarily a rare card, but as in my case, could be a rare INSTANCE of a card. I started collecting seriously when I saw this Rayquaza ex card in the ex Dragon card list and while I knew I wanted it, I also knew I could not justify locking a NM copy into my collection. (and didn’t think I could afford it as a poor kid.)
I did find one just last year in a great binder condition for cheap. Regardless of the lack of value, here’s my shiny green boi, and I LOVE having him on display!

There’s 2 grails for me - Parent Child Garura I was chasing for well over a year and another from the Himeno Charlotte event in 2023. I would say the Himeno signed bday pikachu edges out the kang still due to sentiment. I camped overnight for it and had a memorable time with fellow E4 members.

Two “grails” come to mind
First is sylveon collection eevee. I have a HORRIBLE condition one with ripples in the holo. But I wanted a graded collection of every eevee, and I don’t really care about the grades. Ended up with 13 different POP 1 slabs including this one

I’ve considered it but the risk of shipping it to the USA and back to Europe is something I’ve always thought outweighed the benefit. As we all know also, PSA is extremely rough on vintage and even more so when the card is in a other slab…

I have a lot of grails but this was a huge milestone so I think it qualifies as the grail. It’s not the rarest or the best condition, but this completes my childhood since I was a big Charizard collector in the beginning. Alongside it is the card I had in my binder since the early 2000s, traded someone in school for it.

I own no grail cards. Just cards I like. I don’t think I could ever like a card I don’t personally have some real attachment to. That said, they’re very pretty cards, and if the price was ever right I might consider it just for fun.

These cards mean the world to me, i have a few more things i could say the same for but the amount of time it took to find them all, and excute everything is priceless to me and i made some great friends along the way and wouldnt change it for anything
Also the swablu took me the longest to find the signed copy took me about 2 years(before it was signed got it personally done in charlotte) and i just got in this nm copy yesterday since my search started in 2021, it also has the same holo pattern as the signed copy which is a huge plus
