Yugioh was my thing — played for years during the old school and GX era and stopped around the time XYZs came out but still kept a deck around and enjoyed tweaking it. I attempted to get back in to it during college since there was a decent game store in town, but by that time the game was too fast paced for me with Pendulums and whatnot and just wasn’t as enjoyable as I remembered it. The constant reprints scared me off as a collector, so I sold everything except the only two mint vintage cards I had left and put it all in my first graded Pokemon card since I had fond memories of collecting Pokémon as a kid and wanted to get some of the ones I always wanted. Been collecting vintage Pokémon ever since. That being said, I still would like to have a 1st mint condition LOB blue-eyes and red-eyes one day.
Gambling, used to go like once a month and usually end up blowing a couple hundred bucks spending another $50 getting drunk. Was a good time but I rarely would end up ahead.
I use to be obsessed with precious metal stacking from 2011-2012.
I sold all my silver at $20 an ounce in 2014 and put every single cent into Pokemon - picking up things such as a 1st edition base set pack for $150 (which I still own)
If i had kept the silver it would now be worth ~$17 an ounce, I think I made the correct decision
I collected loads of anime figures. I still collect them and buy a few here and there but frankly I kinda don’t watch anime any more so nothing is coming out I want. I still buy a few from games I play or shows that I watched but my monthly orders went from a few a month to barely 1 maybe 2 every 4 months.
I have a complete set of destiny Pop figures and want to sell them for Pokémon card money but I just had too much of an attachment to the first destiny I can’t bring myself to do it. Destiny 2 can go rot in a hole though
These lego minifigure sets are what I started collecting last year. Then I moved(only across town) and couldn’t believe the space they took up even though it wasn’t bad by anyone’s measures here. Honestly made me want to get rid of them especially since they were sealed and I couldn’t enjoy them the same way I can now enjoy the art of cards I collect.
I only collected the first series sealed. The rest are set up in displays and honestly (IMO) look really cool. Problem is my kids always want to get into them and play with them. I struggle as they are toys, after all…
I’ve siphoned off quite a few of my video game doubles or sealed doubles, as well as the larger Sideshow figures I had that made better sense to sell than display. Haven’t sold any of my signed sports memorabilia. However I’ve only been able to sell one video game I didn’t have an extra of and that was Disney Sports Basketball for the GCN. So, while I’m making efforts to try and fund pokemon purchases from supplemental sales income from mostly video games, I’m having a hard time letting the video games go for probably the same reason others have a hard time selling cards from their collections. I think I would have better success trading expensive lone copies of desirable games I’m good with selling for specific Pokemon cards I want. Selling them, then using that money to go and find the cards I’m looking for isn’t really working for me. It’s like the collector part of my brain can’t accept the gap in time between letting one coveted collectible go without immediately replacing it with another.
tldr–haven’t grown out of video game collecting to fund Pokemon purchases, but I’m trying, and think I’d have better success doing direct trades rather than selling one and buying the other!
I check the prices of my pops every now and then. Usually whenever they are over 100 i start to think about selling and once they reach like 150-200 i decide to part with it
Oh man thats sick! My other hobby is collecting hot toys figures which they have on sideshow and i love them. I sell those, but usually put that money towards more hottoys instead of pokemon cards
Yes, I do believe it probably qualifies as a sickness! BUT, while I was able to part with General Grievous, I’m not having any luck saying buh bye to Crusader of Centy or Suikoden II for…cash? Does not compute.

Most that were sold over the years were due to space or just losing interest. Seems that is my MO, I get obsessed with something and then lost complete interest at the drop of a hat. Gladly that hasn’t happened with Pokemon lol
Many years ago I sold or traded 1950s baseball cards for 1960s comics then alternated selling trading each back and forth for a few years. Fortunately, later on I could afford multiple collectibles so I just kept them all.
