I didn’t know about this r/pokeinvesting subreddit but I actually enjoyed going through it. I think it’s always good to step outside of the EFour bubble and see what other people are collecting.

There was also this cool story about how someone’s mom bought them a $10 dollar plush in 2001 and they sold it for $2225! I’ve never seen a plush auction end so high!

Heres an excerpt from an article I found about it which would explain why it would sell so high.

PokĆ©dolls were sold at the PokĆ©mon Center, but there is something unique about the ones sold at the early PCNY– these 2001 and 2002 release PokĆ©dolls had single, paper tush tags, with the paper hang tag being attached directly to the plush. Regular PokĆ©dolls have a silk loop to which the hang tag attaches. The two most elusive PokĆ©dolls are the Clefairy PokĆ©doll and the Meowth PokĆ©doll, both never sold in Japan other than their PlushPlush versions (PlushPlush dolls were never sold at PCNY! They were exclusive to Japan).

Meowth and Clefairy are two of the extremely few 2001 release PokĆ©dolls sold at the Center. Very few PokĆ©doll collectors in the PokĆ©Merch community have a Meowth PokĆ©doll. Clefairy is slightly more common, but still remains a major grail to many PokĆ©doll collectors. Get ready to hand over a pretty penny to own such a historic plush. You can see them circled on the shelf— Clefairy being on top and Meowth right below. The rest of the known 2001 and 2002 paper tag dolls are as follows (*indicates 2001 dolls):

Pikachu, Pichu, Gengar, Cyndaquil, Corsola, Phanpy, Wobbuffet, Totodile, Celebi.**

Wow… even plushies can be holy grail :flushed:

*PS: Out of curiosity, I searched around and found the most expensive plushie to be an 8" Mudkip plush sold for $9,999 two years ago. Was expecting it to be a zard or something. Visit URL: Mavin | Pokemon Plush Toys Stuffed Animals Blue Mudkip Poke Monster Xmas Gift Doll 8in.

It all began two years ago, when I started exactly in Dubai one evening while I was alone on the 154th floor of the Bury Khalifa asking myself this question: "Marco, but what is the best Charizard object that a private individual can have? What is the real n .1? The real goat?

I’m not into sealed of any kind, but stacking boxes of modern is one of the saddest things you can do in this hobby

At $500 for the PSA 10 with holding for four years I’ll take as many as I can possibly get. I mean Rattle has opened almost 4000 packs chasing it. Raw is $600 range currently. I was buying them at $400-$430 before that spike. And considering I’m keeping two PSA 10s already regardless of price. It seems too good to pass on. I’ll take 100 of them at that price cash :joy:

Is this hyperbole or would you actually spend $50,000 cash on 100 Moonbreons?

not quite as sad as ETB stacks though

When the pop report is that high it can’t be a grail

If going off this exact senecio from the pole. PSA 10s at $400 bucks and hold for four years. Yes I would grab $40,000 worth of Moonbreon PSA 10s. There is a zero percent chance the PSA 10 or raw goes below that price over that long of a period of time. Even with selling fees I’d still end up way ahead and I do have that kind of cash I could spend if it was a reality

My bad $500 per and $50,000 I forgot but still outrageously cheap and I’d still buy

0% chance? What if TPCi prints a new Umbreon that people regard as even cooler?

These sorts of prices for PSA 10 modern cards are a very new phenomenon. Hell, just 5 years ago, a PSA 10 1st Ed Neo Discovery holo Umbreon (the OG moonbreon) was $500 in PSA 10. What if prices retraced back to that level – what would the new moonbreon be worth then?

Or what if demand shifted in favor of the OG? Look at the numbers:

  • The original one that came out 22 years ago has a PSA 10 pop of 93.
  • The new one that came out 2 years ago has a PSA 10 pop of 5199
  • Despite the new one having 56x the PSA 10 pop, the original is only worth 3x more

I could easily see the gap in value between the new and original widening dramatically. But what do I know; we’ll have to wait and see :). All I know is that I’m not sure I’d even purchase copies of the new moonbreon at $100 ea if I knew I couldn’t sell for 5 years. But if you offered me PSA 10 copies of the original moonbreon at 10x that price with the same stipulation, I’d buy as many as allowed.

Can’t imagine how ES Moonbreon’s artwork can be topped… Umbreon is literally worshipping the moon already - ultimate level.

Even years before ES Moonbreon came out, Neo discovery’s Moonbreon hardly appealed to me. I kept hesitating to buy it and still didn’t buy it till today. Umbreon in that artwork looks more like a leopard in my opinion.

Any information whether the ā€œMoonbreon brosā€ prefer the EN or the JP version of the card for the :full_moon: stonks?

Mostly English ver. My sources: While browsing instagram, FB and reddit posts of people pulling the card.

I’ve heard the argument ad nauseam that Moonbreon will be dethroned by another hot modern Umbreon card.

Still not convinced. Even if we assume there is a hot new card featuring Umbreon, it’ll probably be another Umbreon + moon combo - in which case, Moonbreon will still be the first alt art Umbreon + moon combo.
