Since we like to shame the less then reputable ebay sellers, what happened to the power seller Dreamjoey?
Had purchased multiple item(s) from him in the past and he had great prices. He was selling pre-orders for booster boxes and always had great prices. Surprised to see the amount of negative feedback he has received recently of non-shipments and is no longer a registered ebay user.
Do power sellers just come and go on ebay? (First year back to Pokemon). Are collector shops getting rekt by the coronavirus or was he just a shady salesmen? Interested to hear others thoughts as this post relates to pokemon tcg and ebay seller and was even active on the reddit /pkmntcgdeals posts
What wrong has he done so others can avoid similar situation?
I never had any issues with him, but it seemed every time he came up on the subreddit it was always customer service related. It didn’t sound like he was very good at communicating with questions or concerns.
OMG! Yes Dreamjoey is who I just posted about. I had been buying from them since 2012 with no issue, until last year. I bought 3x boxes of Unbroken Bonds on presell and they only shipped 1x. I contacted them directly and the person messaged me back was a complete jerk, I had to call ebay directly to get my money back.
I just thought it was so so strange. No I’m not your best/ most profitable customer but why burn this bridge for no reason.
Side note, since I went directly to ebay for resolution, I was not able to post a Feedback review.
Now that time has passed, I have a reasonable theory on what [might of] happened… if you’re interested.
Dreamjoey was one of the ones tied to GTS. Strange. They were selling FF tcg boxes at below the rates I could buy it through GTS myself and they were doing it when FF was GTS exclusive. Sportsandmore was another account of theirs.
Rudy covers one of them, but I’ve heard it a little different. My uncle was an eBay PowerSeller up until he passed in 2009. What he sold was a bunch of junk but he was a good guy. I would work for him doing inventory in the garage, I remember one day he was really upset about something eBay related, He was yelling on the phone at/to someone (Which was shocking to me as he was such a chill guy) when I asked him about it he said “Oh, just someone cashing out their eBay account, taking an early retirement…” which I later recall him calling the whole incident “The eBay retirement fund”
If I had to date this specific incident, 2004 or 2005. So adding to Rudys points, eBay knows about this “kamikaze” style bs and its been happening for awhile. Which really sucks, because I really do love eBay.
The other is related to my working at a tech company for nearly 4 years. 2 years were great, then the company got bought out, 2 years of NOT great. Im sure that alot of people can relate. Just little stupid things that saved the new company money but overtime upset our clients and employees.
So applying that to this seller, perhaps they added new business partner or even sold the business completely? Maybe an employee snagging products before it ships, If anyone has seen the HBO documentary McMillions they all say the same thing about being “In to deep” and couldn’t stop.
Idk it just doesn’t make any sense to burn down an established business.
Also speculation: He had a store selling pokemon and sports and other hobby cards since 1998… If fewer people were buying cards during the current lockdown, it could have affected his business greatly (?).
He was likely floating funds from prepaid pre-orders months in advance (to the degree that he was selling booster boxes and hobbyist supplies below his cost of acquisition as @gottaketchumall implied and I noticed for card supplies). Typically this is beyond ebay’s 30 day window for preorders. Since he had 125,000 ratings and member over 20 years, he may not have been flagged by ebay.
Probably started legit, bad hobbyist financial management in 2020 and when the money ran out, was unable to ship orders and ebay decided they gotta go either because of large amount of non-shipments (as evident for some of you, unfortunately) or abusing policy (less likely as other similar sellers do the same).
Thanks for sharing as it was a big surprise to see a powerseller for pokemon cards go under. For people in other sports aside from pokemon, has Magic or sports cards overall taken a hit in sales? That would support my theory but it could be other reasons as well. Just another Shady Ebay Seller
Dreamjoey was supposedly in the last city I lived in. Contacted him once to buy like 4 cases since I was supposedly so close to him. Refused to meet in person and take cash. Seemed suspicious.
